It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny

A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

Fails on every point. Just a bunch of juveniles who are deluded into thinking they have some skill and talent and can produce an actual movie, NO! It is outrageous that such putrid trash should ever make it to DVD. Everything is wrong and BAD about this mess. AVOID IT ! 0/10

This was one of those poor decisions a person makes when browsing the "You Might Like" sections of Netflix too late at night. Besides the Academy Award-winning acting (heavy on the sarcasm here, folks), the plot was just absolutely beyond ridiculous. It was like they threw a bunch of ideas in a hat and then decided to use every single one, in no particular order. I've watched plenty of "bad" horror movies and enjoyed them. This was a whole different animal. It probably doesn't help that I grew up in the town in West Virginia that this was centered on (Weston, WV). Yes, there is an asylum there. Unfortunately, as cool as the ACTUAL place is (and you can take tours of it), this movie decided to basically take a poop on any semblance of the true, haunted history of the REAL asylum (which would make for a truly scary movie, IMO.) If only Netflix would reimburse people for the pain and suffering they experience after watching one of their "recommendations".

With the production being from VVS Films I was a little weary. But I didn't mind the film. I thought the back story subtitled narration was a strong point. The acting from Josh Folan seems very sincere and the acting from the surrounding cast is very acceptable. Now I've been watching this company VVS Films spit out a lot of garbage in the earlier years with bad actors being hired straight from high school it seemed, and the writing of most of their earlier production films were terrible. I'm surprised they are still around. I stayed away from any film made by VVS Films and now I stumbled upon this excellent well written and well produced B movie gem. Not bad at all I must say! The ghost scenes were pretty cool, especially the bloody girl in the hospital hallway that seemed to be the creepy girl from "The Grudge", but still it wasn't that bad of a scene, being already done before. The film grade seemed not too bad at times, but earlier on in the film it was a little too low grade.Especially when the hosts of the show meet with the guy that wants them to investigate the insane asylum as his last request before he dies, the scene was too brightly lit, the background was a really noticeably fake New York background, and the acting from the guy requesting this reality show to do the investigation was really bad, also his lawyer was terrible at acting, he also looked like he has hair plugs from some early 1990's hair transplant that went wrong. The religious camera crew seemed a little weak with the "medium". But all in all not bad. The Scottish actor performance was really decent, he had a funny one liner when introduced. As a fan of low budget films this one didn't seem that bad as a VVS production, they acquired some really talented actors/actresses, and the writing was well done, as for short scripts go. The acting seemed to get stronger as the film went on. If only the film grade were darker and more gritty, this would of went to most theatre's. The score of the film seemed a little ridiculous at times but understandable considering the budget restraints. The funny thing is there is definitely more terrible high budget films going to the big screen than this one...........

I confess, I'm a sucker for these types of scary films as others have also said. So it's terrible when 90 minutes is wasted on something that should never have made it out of the college film class it was created in. If this wasn't a college project then someone wasted their money producing it. The acting is cheesy and amateurish, the overall production was not done well and the sound engineering must have been done by some kid they pulled in from the hallway. Normal conversations go from low volume one minute to high volume the next. I had to hold the remote as I was constantly adjusting the sound. The only redeeming thing about this movie is the special effects which were decent for most of the movie....until the end where it inexplicably gets cheesy again. As a college film project I'd give it an A. As a Netflix offering I'd give it a D-.
