City on Fire (1987)
Ko Chow is an undercover cop who is under pressure from all sides. His boss, Inspector Lau, wants him to infiltrate a gang of ruthless jewel thieves; his girlfriend wants him to commit to marriage or she will leave Hong Kong with another lover; and he is being pursued by other cops who are unaware that he is a colleague. Chow would rather quit the force, feeling guilty about betraying gang members who have become his friends.

Just what I expected
As Good As It Gets
It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
"Long hu feng yun" ("City on Fire") is a pretty damn cool action film. This film is directed by Ringo Lam and stars Chow Yun Fat. The film is about a cop that goes undercover in a violent street gang, the gang are planning to do a heist aswell. Some really great action sequences in this! definatly one for those who are lover off asian cinema (like myself) have to check this film out. Quentin Tarantino fans will definatly like this aswell as its what Tarantino played homage to in his smash hit debut film "Resevoir Dogs". I myself need to check out MORE films starring Chow Yun Fat and ones directed by Ringo Lam. Adams Rating - 8/10
I viewed this on late night TV and it immediately grabbed me. It was due to its interesting music, shoot outs, superior cinematography and a brilliant performance by Chow-Yun Fat as the undercover agent sent to join a gang headed by the excellent Danny Lee. Only the ending bears comparison to Reservoir Dogs with the rest of the film building up to this moment. In it's own right this is as good as Tarantino's effort and should be seen by as many people.
A young cop goes undercover to infiltrate a group of jewelry thieves. Quentin Tarantino definately saw this one. He basically took the story and molded it into his own flick... Reservoir Dogs. If you were a fan of Reservoir Dogs than you will probably like this film. Although it is the same story, the movies are completely different. Instead of spending the entire movie in the warehouse, this film goes and shows more of the undercover cop's life and his relationship with his girlfriend. There are also many other things going on. Well made, well directed, and a great story. This one doesn't have the hip dialogue the Tarantino film has got, but it is still a blast to watch. *** out of ****
City on Fire is an insufferable bore. I don't see what all the fuss is about. I rented this expecting a movie with lots of action and violence. There is very little happening in this movie except lots of talking. Ringo Lam is supposed to be a master film maker but he sure didn't show any genius genius this one.
