Two young orphans in the Tirolian Mountains come under siege by a vicious band of hunters. Frightened of being separated by child services following the death of their mother, a self-sufficient 16-year-old girl and her 10-year-old brother - who hasn't spoken a word since seeing his father killed by the mayor - strive to live off the land in peace. Their innocence is shattered, however, when a group of hunters led by the mayor's son brutalizes and rapes the free-spirited girl. Later, when a well-meaning social services worker arrives too late to protect the terrorized siblings, the girl and her brother prepare to take a stand against their ruthless attackers.

Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.

Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.

This film was captivating from beginning to end. The lack of superfluous dialog and attention to natural sounds and cinematographic skill made this film exceptionally brilliant. There was no need to show illicit scenes, the message was understood. The dialog was not needed, the viewer could grasp the emotion, the intensity that needed no words. In fact, we are so accustomed to needless overuse of language that this film truly was a breath of fresh air. The subject matter was not easy, but the scenes were gripping and the acting was far above and beyond what viewers in the USA are made to believe is "great". The essence of this movie is the age old battle between good and evil, and the religious illusions in the film reflect that the seeds of evil are where we least expect them.... This film has twists and turns and is not predictable. This is not a film for non cerebral viewers. I gave it 10 stars for creativity, for being UNIQUE in an industry that is running out of ideas....

This movie is pretty good.Very little dialogue in this film. Many reviews and remarks I found on here criticized the film for this especially since they claimed there was no back story. There is a partial one with clues thrown in throughout for you to draw your on conclusions. You have to pay close attention to the beginning of the film and you may need your close caption turned on otherwise an important element will be lost and a lot of what happens will leave you feeling lost. If you do this the movie will make more sense to you.The movie relies heavily on the visual forcing you to pay attention so if you are the type to be on your phone or computer while watching a movie this film might tick you off because it won't make sense to you. There is nothing that will jump out and smack you in the face to make you pay attention to it. You have to make the the choice to commit your attention to the film and not be distracted by anything else.**Here is where the spoiler comes in.** Someone posted on the message board for the film questioning why the man who killed the father saved the kids in the end. That detail is solely found in the very beginning of the film. I have to admit that if I did not have my CC on I would have missed it. The reason why is because the clue was "hidden" in a conversation that happened in the background not in the forefront within the opening scene. There are moments in town that will show that what the Hunter did to the Girl probably would have happened eventually. Even if he tried to woo her, the secret would come out. He would have still went with his urges anyway.**This is where the spoilers end** If you have Netflix it is available now. That's how I came across it. Give it a chance.

There is almost no dialogue in this movie. I love that wonderful choice. Especially nowadays when every movie seems loud and overwritten. When we are overwhelmed with too many words. often we have words for nothing. Autumn Blood it is full of very dark content and unsettling moments. Yet still the atmosphere of the film is so tremendously beautiful. The story is told through wonderful artistic cinematography.I see lots of European Films, and this is a remarkable masterpiece done by a first time director. The whole subject was treated very tasteful. Especially as a woman I appreciate the sensitivity of the director. And it gives me hope that there are still many great novice filmmakers out there.

This film does not have much dialogue, and it uses it powerfully. If you need to have a movie laid out before you then move on, otherwise this is an immensely moving and captivating experience. From the wistfully serene wilderness imagery, to the wonderfully executed roles from the cast we see the a broad spectrum of human emotions conveyed through their hands, eyes, smiles, tears, anguish and pain. Cinematography could not have been better, the soundtrack simple and subtle. Sophie Lowe shines so bright as "The Girl", the supporting actors balance and round off the ensemble. This film is not for everyone, and it's brilliance will only be seen by a few; if you believe the most powerful words are the ones not spoken this may be a film for you.
