Good movie but grossly overrated

A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

Unique, interesting, fun, and quite entertaining, what's to bash about Brainscan? I don't know. Was Trickster just a little bit too annoying, or was it just me? And you guys lost a star from me, just for adding that song from Primus in there ( I absolutely HATE that group!) Edward Furlong stars as, oh, I forgot his name, it's been almost 25 years since I watched this, you know, you forget a name or two there. He thinks he's played every horror game under the sun, and he has, but he has no idea about the game Brainscan. He's refered to the game Brainscan by a friend, who assures him that the game takes gaming to the next level and beyond. So! He plays the game. He's instructed to choose his weapon for the game. Funny. The game looks like real life! I think he chooses a meat cleaver. Well, I'm not sure what the point or challenge of the game is, but supposedly, he only has like 24 or 48 hours to do whatever, I don't know, again, its been awhile since I watched this! When the game is on hiatus, he finds that the murder he committed in the game....really happened. Then comes the CD in the mail. He pope it in, and it seems the company knew exactly how much time he left to play the game, and he has to finish it. ( Sighs. Who markets this, anyway?) Will he win or lose? Do you care? I could be wrong, but I think Brainscan only worked for the time of its release. Meaning, it has no place in cinema today, or your living room. Strong efforts, wicked settings, and very unique concept set the bar high, nevertheless. I'm giving it 6 out of 10 stars. For this, I do forgive Furlong for Pet Semetary 2.

Spoiler Alert!!! With the exception of Edward Furlong this film really doesn't have too many big names. I mean I don't even know anybody else. For being a bunch of no names I thought all of the other actors did a decent job at portraying their roles. I think Edward was a bit awkward at times I mean when he's spying on his love interest he doesn't even look like he's interested in what he's doing. Half of the time it looks like he's bored and uninterested in being in this film. I don't know if that's the purpose of his character but man he really looks depressed. Anyway this movie doesn't have a lot of gore and it didn't need to because the story is very unique and original. I don't think I've ever seen a slasher movie where a character is forced against his will to murder a bunch of people. This movie is pretty interesting and there's so much to say about it but check it out for yourself. I give it a 7 out of 10 because it's so interesting and fresh.

I was surprised how cool this movie really is, a lot better than suggested here. Edward Furlong plays his main character very well in this movie. Honestly I especially like "bad" horror movies because they are many times funny as well, which you don't see in the average "ohh now I am supposed to be scared movie's"The background music is great as well!At last I was also surprised at the actor who play's "The Trickster" (Who acts crazy funny and mad!) (he doesn't play any many movie's which is weird in my opinion!)8/10 for me.

Brainscan is a fun, shocking, and enjoyable horror film that is one of the most underrated films around. Edward (T2) Furlong stars a troubled teen named Michael who loves horror movies and horror video games. His dad is never around and his mom died when he was a kid. He also likes to spy on his school-mate neighbor as she gets dressed. One day he gets a game disc in the mail for a new virtual reality game called Brainscan. A game in which you commit murders. But Michael soon finds a severed foot in his freezer and all hell breaks loose. Especially when the creepy and bizarre Trickster appears...guiding him to certain terror. This film was a pleasant surprised that had a charm about it. Furlong is believable as the troubled teen and turns in a great performance and T. Ryder Smith is both disturbing and cool as the evil demon behind the video game. Trickster easily steals the show. There is some good deaths and some decent gore. You get some T&A, a lot of hard rock music, a nosey detective, horror movie references, and some solid special effects. The movie seems to fly by and the end is a real treat. A solid horror rental for any horror fan. I have no idea why someone tried to compare this to "In the mouth of madness". Too bad the girl next door wasn't actually cute or attractive.
