It is 2016 and a fearful world seems to be on the brink of a nuclear catastrophe. A researcher in psychical events and his girlfriend travel to deepest Dartmoor to investigate a centuries-old building. What they unlock and discover is way more than they could have ever bargained for. An exciting first feature from newcomer Eugene McGing, who expertly takes familiar tropes and gives them a fresh spin in this genuinely terrifying haunted house tale.

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

FAKE reviews here by the busload. However it really is easy to spot them!!! If you see a several reviews which rate a movie highly then you also see a review which rates very low,its obvious that the LOW review would be the genuine one!!! There wouldn't be any point in voting a decent film with low score. No point.even for the trolls. This movie could have been made for peanuts by a bunch of children with a mobile phone.....yes really. The story line is non existent. The editing and cohesion of story is quite pathetic. No horror/acting/effects/scares/twists/ Its a classic found footage bunch of flashing lights/blurry images and stupid dialogue for stupid people.NO SPOILERS NO POINT...TRUST ME.

The Unfolding is part of the second wave of Frighfest's video-on- demand releases, and along with the other British film The Lesson, are much more interesting choices than the first wave. The Unfolding is a haunted house story, told via surveillance cameras and camcorders. Yes the concept may not be original, but everything else in this film is of the highest quality. From the opening sequence which has you peering into the mist to try and see the black dog, you know you are in the hands of a team of competent film-makers.There is no annoying shaky camera stuff here. The well framed shots and monochrome texture evokes the infra-red haunted house photographs of Simon Marsden. But it's the sound design that is especially effective – creating the eerie atmosphere of muffled cries and barely audible whispers and then to deliver the film's several jump-out-your-seat scares. It all sets the stage for a really big finale – which will have you catching your breath.

If you are a true fan of old fashioned 'what's in your head is scarier than anything special effects can do' horrors - this is one for you!The Unfolding is broodingly atmospheric with a fabulous soundtrack which adds to the tension. The acting was solid with committed performances. The storyline goes beyond things that go bump in the night! This is not a big budget slasher but a quiet and creepy slow burner. This film is obviously made by a horror fan...and it's appreciated! If viewers are prepared to go with it…you'll be rewarded by some scares! Enjoy!

Thoroughly enjoyed the preview screening I saw a few weeks back, it was refreshing to see a British take on the genre. Believable characters with a genuine reason for CCTV cameras to be in place to counter the hand-held shots, nice location work and excellent sound mixing/editing to compound the atmosphere/scares make it one of the better found footage horror films of recent times. Make sure you see it with a good sound system for maximum effect. It's also good to see characters acting with rationality, instead of highly unlikeable idiots with iphones running about wildly (looking at you Area 51/Bigfoot Chronicles) despite the supernatural occurring around them.Well worth a watch for any FFH buff.
