This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.

THE BLACK HOLE is the usual nonsense science fiction TV movie that was made for the Sci Fi Channel. This one features Kristy Swanson, best known as the actress who originally played BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER in the unsuccessful film made years before the TV series came along, revamped the idea, and was wildly successful. This film sees experimental scientists managing to create their own mini black hole, only to put the world in danger when a monster comes through it.It's ridiculous as it sounds, and pretty pitiful even by the standards of this genre. The film is chock-full of cheesy CGI effects and the creature is rendered invisible which gives it an odd, FORBIDDEN PLANET-style look. The acting is noticeably worse than even in this sub-genre of films, and the characters are so poorly-written as to be one-dimensional. Even genre fans will be hard pretty to enjoy this one.

This film is less than the some of its parts, but you could do a lot worse. The title and science used by the scientist are a bit iffy, and that took away from the movie a bit. It was difficult to suspend disbelief because of the fact that the script seemed to need some better thinking over. However, the visual effect were very well done, and it had a nice radio-drama feel. Not sure how to describe it. It was like if you were watching something fake but it took itself semi-seriously so that you could pretend it was real. There was news footage which was enjoyable, the actors were mostly competent in their roles... but he main character was... unemotional in delivery, and that was likely a writer/director decision but he should have been a much more emotional character, since his plot components involved being so emotional that it had a major effect on his live.Perhaps he was on mood stabilizers. In any case, 6/10 overall, I would call it a "C-" movie. I watched with friends, we had fun, and it actually let me think on how important it is to rewrite things until they shine, if you want the best quality. Don't watch this alone, or watch it if you want a great movie, or something which has a deeper effect.

"Following a scientific mishap, mankind is faced with total annihilation as a threatening black hole appears over St. Louis. Now, time is running out to obliterate the black hole and the electricity-feeding alien it has unleashed," according to the DVD sleeve description. This film has nothing to do with either the original "Black Hole" movie or a real astronomical black hole, which could not make an appearance like the one depicted in this film. It plays more like an episode of "The Outer Limits"."The Black Hole" stars hairy Judd Nelson (as Eric Bryce) and pretty Kristy Swanson (as Shannon Muir). It was a "Science Fiction Channel" original, featuring David Selby (as General Ryker) in a substantial supporting role. Ironically, the network stopped airing repeats of Mr. Selby's "Dark Shadows" in order to present more first-run entertainment (like multiple airings of this movie). Although Selby is always a dependable player, this program made you want to see "Dark Shadows" return.*** The Black Hole (6/10/06) Tibor Takacs ~ Judd Nelson, Kristy Swanson, David Selby, Christa Campbell

Seargent Bennett, a woman with a modest part in the film was played by Heather Dawn? She is not listed in the film credits as far as I could tell, and IMDb has her listed as Heather Dawn playing Sgt. Heather Dawn. What's up with that? Otherwise, it's another formula sci-fi film that they've been making as of late. Entertaining, but hardly riveting. The plot is a bit too thin, and the "creature" is similar to so many others, such as at least two on the original Outer Limits series. If the president nearly okayed nuking the "Hole" to destroy it, I'm sure it would have been bombed no matter what if the current U. S. administration were portrayed!
