I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.

Here's the thing- this film got completely overshadowed by the David Fincher movie which is vastly superior, but this isn't a bad film at all, more like just adequate. I remember seeing this and pondering why everyone- at least the critics- hated it. You can give this one a shot, it isn't as bad as the ratings imply.

The Zodiac killer was never caught, so there can be no resolution. So this low budget police procedure thriller takes a domestic route to the facts. We see the destruction of a successful marriage as the obsessed fictional detective fails to catch the mysterious yet communicative killer. The period is particularly well recreated, the performances by the entire assemble of cast members strong, the central lead played with substance by Justin Chambers particularly effective and the murders disturbing in there recreation. The zodiac is in my view a nice piece of low budget cinema. Dramatically the film is not rewarding but only because there can be no happy ending or the resolution we crave. But as a mystery and as a piece of nostalgia though a macabre one, it did for me work well. In short this little known minor film is more than just worth a watch.

a simple sketch. not very clear, not elaborated, far to be convincing or almost interesting. short, nothing complicated, nothing credible. only few lines from a famous case and Justin Chambers as hero. the problem is not acting or script but the lost of purpose. it seems be a film about nothing, puzzle from different crime films, without roots of characters and full of improvisation. a movie who can be, in the most happy situation, source of sources about subject and a kind of introduction not very smart, but not so bad. short, a gray film. not decent, not bad. only a poor one . about a complex subject who has as meritorious thing only its title.

I spent 90 minutes watching this movie only to be disappointed. The beginning held so much promise. The opening scene starting with the first recorded Zodiac murder and then following up with the introduction of the characters, all well done. But thats when the movie takes a turn for me. The lead policeman is not engaging at all. When he become obsessed with catching the killer, resorting to smoking, drinking and bad temper, you do not feel for him. I felt that he was a jerk not considering his family during this time. There are hints that the son connects with the killer - like a profiler, as he seems to collect everything he can on the crimes including breaking into his fathers office, but this not explored. The policeofficer's wife and son are going to leave him, them nothing happens, it was like it didn't happen and they were all back together again. The ending of this film is what is the most disappointing. Ending with the Zodiac threat to kill school children on the bus and the police tailing them. This movie could have been so much better.P.S. The night camera work is way to dark to see what was going on
