A misfit group of New Mexico cowboys find themselves on the journey of a lifetime when they learn their crooked-footed racehorse qualifies to run in the Kentucky Derby. Wow! Such a good movie.
Wow! What a bizarre film! Unfortunately the few funny moments there were were quite overshadowed by it's completely weird and random vibe throughout.
It's a mild crowd pleaser for people who are exhausted by blockbusters.

Since the Kentucky Derby is this weekend, I decided to watch this movie again. I really don't need a reason to watch any thing Christian Kane is in and he is great in this movie! So are all the other actors in the film. I remember this race well and it's a great story of the little horse that could and did. Added bonus was getting to hear a little bit of Christian Kane's songs. Great Family Movie for all to enjoy. If you haven't seen it, I would say to definitely check it out.
This is a feel good movie about the under dog beating the odds. This film uses the exact locations not just sets so you get a real sense of what it was like and even the real jockey who rode Mine That Bird. Most of the actual characters get cameo's somewhere in the film and the actors who were chosen to portray them do a great job. I am a big fan of Christian Kane and love him in this movie as it's close to his Texas cowboy persona. The rest of the actors Skeet Ulrich, William Devane and all the others do a great job too. It's not a huge cast so all the characters develop through the film and it was only shot on a comparatively low budget of about $8.5 million so given that the scope of the movie is amazing. Good fun and entertainment for all.
I was able to see 50 to 1 at an awesome theater in California. This movie is heart warming and a feel good movie! The cast was perfectly picked. I must say that I am a fan of Christian Kane and was really looking forward to seeing this movie. It was great to hear one of his songs in the movie as well. Christian Kane is extremely talented. Calvin Borels story of what happened with him and Mind that Bird, makes you have hope again that anything can happen if you give your all. I would recommend this film to anyone who likes true stories brought to film. Mind that Bird is such a beautiful horse. Watch the movie, you won't be disappointed!
I love this movie! It's too bad that family friendly movies, such as 50 to 1, is NOT put out by major movie studios anymore; except for Disney and Pixar! There's a little violence in the opening bar scene but much less than a Bugs Bunny Cartoon! AND, it's a vital part of the story, Which is a TRUE story of beating the odds! Why wasn't this movie picked up by a major studio! This movie should be seen and adored by millions! Look at the money that could've been made! If a movie isn't full of blood and gore, or magical and fantastical and made for tens of millions of dollars if not more, it's not worth making! The acting is amazing and the horse that was used was great! It's such a feel good, pick yourself up by the bootstraps movie!
