Unshakable, witty and deeply felt, the film will be paying emotional dividends for a long, long time.

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

First, let's get this straight: CONSPIRACY is a straightforward, modern-day remake of the Spencer Tracy classic, BAD DAY AT BLACK ROCK. Val Kilmer takes on the Tracy role, playing an outsider who arrivals in a small town to track down his missing friend. Turns out that everybody knows something, but nobody's saying anything.I liked this film for the most part because it avoids clichés and it doesn't rely on cheesy action to propel the storyline. After the prologue, the first hour or so is engaging and suspenseful, building up a level of intrigue that most B-movies rarely attempt. There's an air of mystery hanging over the whole production and you actively want to find out what's going on.Gradually, the story does fizzle out a bit as it progresses, and the last half hour resorts to the usual clichés: massive shoot-outs, showdowns in the desert, bad guys getting just deserts, and so on. The cast members are adequate for this production; Kilmer is at least trying as the former soldier suffering from PTSD, while Gary Cole can do this sinister villain stuff in his sleep by now.The biggest disappointment is from Adam Marcus, the director. This is a guy who worked once since 1993's JASON GOES TO HELL, and his lack of experience shows. The dialogue scenes are passable, but the action sequences are hellishly bad. It appears they ran out of money for stunts or decent choreography because the action is all over the place and a real mess, sapping enjoyment at the showdown which should be a bit of glorious vengeance. Still, CONSPIRACY gets a lot of kudos from me for the first hour...

This film seems to be a combination of two earlier films; Bad Day at Black Rock, and First Blood. In fact several scenes are practically identical frame for frame. A little originality in those particular scenes would've been better. But no biggie. The story heads down its own path when descriptions of what the USA has been doing in (and after) every war we've been stuck in since WWII. We go in, destroy everything in sight, eventually get out, then send in the same companies to rebuild they mess they made. The brave men and women who gave their lives mean absolutely nothing except a way for those companies to get rich. It's been a national disgrace for decades. This film brings that corruption to light, but judging by many of these reviews those traitorous companies are also stacking reviews in their favor. It's actually quite funny. Even a blind man could see it.

I am so glad that I rented Conspiracy before buying it!It was completely surprising to find out exactly how much Val Kilmer was emotionally invested in this movie! Judging by his bloated appearance and sleepwalking performance, I assumed he was only in it for the money and was bored or that he was deliberately trying to sabotage a film he felt was beneath him!In all four of the Val Kilmer movies I've seen lately (Conspiracy, Moscow Zero, Felon, and Dead Man's Bounty where he plays a corpse) he appears to be clinically depressed! I don't know what Val needs more, Weight Watchers or Lithium!Of the whole wooden cast only Gary Cole seems to be having any fun.Everything they say about the silly leftist slant of Conspiracy is true. I don't know any left-wingers that even watch any straight-to-video action movies. The only reason I can even conceive of this being made is as a Trojan Horse to get into living rooms and spit in the face of the people whom the filmmakers disagree. This is one big political screed that should be ignored as much as possible.

Worst movie I have watched in a long time, and I should add that I recently watched Hudson Hawk so that should give you an indication of how bad it is.Oh Val, what did they do to you.I'm sure, or at least I hope that Val too feels embarrassment at this movie. I can't find one good thing to say about it other than it did force me to stop working for a bit but then I realised that it would be more fun to stick pins in my eyes than watch another moment of cringe-worthy acting from everyone in the case. Not even full frontal Val nudity could save this.
