Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.

Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.

Let's get it out of the way now - this movie has not an ounce of originality in its body. The creature is brazenly stolen from Predator, and the plot incorporates elements of Jurassic Park shamelessly. It is also an incredibly fun film to just sit back and enjoy.Part of this is the surprisingly earnest performances turned in by the main cast. Despite the silliness of his role morphing from a scientist to a doctor to an action hero as the plot demands, Mark Dacascos fills his part capably. Robin McKee is serviceable in a sidekick role that doesn't feel like a waste, and Tom Taus performs well as a surprisingly capable stock child companion. The underrated Roger Aaron Brown has a good part as a scientist working for the villain who has a crisis of conscience about the experiment. The real show-stealer, however, is Jurgen Prochnow, who chews the scenery but just avoids pushing it too far as the mad scientist main antagonist of the film. He is always entertaining when he is on screen, and his death comes far too soon. The plot is standard, and the visual effects bounce between impressive and bad. Mark McCracken (of Pumpkinhead 2) has a dual role as a tough soldier and the man inside the creature's costume. When he is in the costume, the creature has a nicely slimy and menacing appearance. CGI, however, is poor, both for the creature and for other scenes, especially the infamous helicopter crash. All in all, though, this is a very enjoyable film for fans of B-movies. If you're into such things, seek it out.

As a picture, it's below a B pic. It would be like the 4th pic in an all day screening. Horrible The special effects are laughable. They actually use toy helicopters and pretend they are real! The Plot Deep in the heart of the jungle in North Borneo a group of scientists excavate the bones of a creature buried among the ruins of ancient and forgotten civilization. The expedition is lead by Dr. Carl Wessinger. He discovers how to extract DNA from the bones. They only need an enzyme to recreate the creature. Wessinger asks the help of Ash Mattley. Ash had done research on enzymes. He is double-crossed and two years later Claire Sommers, who works for the CIA, asks Ash for help after a number of mutilated bodies are found. Claire believes Wessinger is behind this because her 'company' has no contact anymore with the lab in the jungle. Wessinger who recreated the creature, wants to sell it to the highest bidder as a war machine, and it is on the loose in the jungle, killing everybody.

... of movies like Predator, Alien, Jurassic Park, Rambo, Indiana Jones, etc ... ... and of bad script, terrible lines, lame acting, rubber ducks and aliens from "Alien", bad actors, stupid situations, idiotic characters and other stuff in the same category.oh and how the hell can you extract dna from goddamn BONES?? let's clone dinosaurs, shall we?and what IS that thing anyway? is it an alien? "ancient creature" ? I bet those things lived around Caesar or Cleopatra. did they keep them as pets? 'cause I want one then !so... Enjoy !

I thought the first half of this movie was bad - there's a monster that's created by combining an ancient skeleton with the DNA of beetles, or maybe it's a space alien? Both explanations are given. A mad scientist (Jurgen Prochnow) has created this thing as a military weapon (oh yeah, the old completely uncontrollable monster as a weapon gag). A CIA agent and a local doctor / scientist / jungle guide / warrior guy try to stop them. There's just one plot hole after another. At one point the multi-tasking guy and the CIA agent are locked up in a drainage pipe, but escape simply by going to the next exit. They put a guy in a cage to act as bait for the monster, but there are people running around all over the place. Why would they assume the monster would go after the guy in the cage? And on and on. But the second half of this movie is just a really cheap Predator rip off, scene-by-scene. You get two people laying motionless on a beach, and a monster's-eye view of them - he can't see them because, well, he's 99% blind I guess. The Predator couldn't see Schwarzenegger because he was covered in mud which masked his infra-red signature, but these folks aren't covered in mud. Apparently the creature saw Predator and realized that he shouldn't be able to see them. Then there's the scene where the Indian takes off his shirt and rubs something across his chest, preparing to do battle. And the scene where a big piece of tree trunk is hoisted into the air for a trap. Just for variety, they throw in a scene where a helicopter crashes behind our "good" characters and rolls towards them as they run away, very reminiscent of Aliens. Except the scene in this movie is comically bad. I don't see how anyone could watch it without laughing out loud at that special effect. There's also a drawn out death scene that drags everything to a complete halt just when it had finally started moving.Anyway, this movie has nothing to recommend it. Prochnow's evil scientist character is really the only one that's developed to any degree, and of course, he's the one we're not supposed to like.
