The Women (1939)

Absolutely amazing

It is not only a funny movie, but it allows a great amount of joy for anyone who watches it.

Yo, there's no way for me to review this film without saying, take your *insert ethnicity + "ass" here* to see this film,like now. You have to see it in order to know what you're really messing with.

I'd heard small bits about this film and mostly from its many admirers, so I was looking forward to checking it out myself. There is quite a bit to enjoy, the tight and often times witty dialogue, along with solid performances by an overall wonderful cast are definitely to this films credit. That the focus seems to be on the most negative female stereotypes and cliches is disappointing and does get a little tiring after a while. Despite some reservations I do think this film is worth checking out though.

The women is a great movie and comedy. It informs you of self worth and what you deserve and the difficulties of dealing with a cheating man. Its covered throughout with comedy though with Mrs. haynes best friends certain characters ! Silvia being the best, best friend she has ! If it was not for her she wouldn't have known about Stevens affair and she the most round character in the movie. The fashion was also interesting as well , seeing the way it was staged back in the 1930's. Great film. !

I loved seeing an all female cast where men were talked about but never seen. I found that very clever. That also could be symbolic of the fact that men (for these women) are always on the minds of women or at the center of women's existence whether they are physically present or not. I do wish that the topic or theme of the film was not about marriage or men. But as a topic the film did bring up interesting points. Like wether or not to stay with a man if he cheats. It's interesting though that in either case, whether the woman stays in the relationship or leaves, its seen as her fault (in the film). It's her fault he cheated because she wasn't enough and it's her fault for getting a divorce when she could just stay in the relationship. Besides that point I don't see what else the film was trying to say. Again, I love the female cast but the topic of the film was so bland to me that I couldn't bring myself to really enjoy it. Side-note: it was weird that the fashion show scene was in color but the rest of the film was in black and white.

The Women is a hilariously funny movie. The cast includes all women who are all fabulous at playing their parts. Although only women play in this movie, it is all about men and the issues that these women have with men.Norma Shearer stars in this film as Mary Haines. She finds out that her husband is having an affair and is devastated. Although they end up getting a divorce and her husband ends up being unhappily married to a gold digger, Mary fights for Stephen and her true love for him.This is a fast paced movie which is sure to keep your interest. It is amazing how the camera is used throughout the movie and how fluent the cuts between the scenes are. This is a must see movie.
