The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.

An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

Obviously inspired by "The Blair Witch Project", "They're Watching" does manage to bring in a few fresh elements that help it to be its own movie instead of a blatant rip-off. The Moldavian backdrop does give the movie a unique feel and look, for starters. Also, the acting is pretty good for the most part, making the characters pretty believable. The cast also brings in some low-key humor that is amusing while at the same time coming across as realistic instead of forced. However, despite those aforementioned good elements, the movie doesn't really work. The main problem with it is that it's much too slow-moving and padded out for its own good. Yes, time should be devoted to set up the situation and the characters, but the movie takes way too long with this. After a while, you'll be impatient and snapping at the movie to simply get on with it. If you are really patient, you'll be eventually rewarded with a somewhat wild climax, but I don't think it's enough compensation for the slow and dreary time that unfolded just before it, especially since the special effects in this sequences are kind of cheesy at times. This is definitely not the worst "found footage" movie that's out there - there are some good things in it - but you'll see that it could have been a great deal better than it actually is.

I really liked it. The thing is, even though it seemed very slow to actually develop and nothing seems to happen really until the very end, I was engrossed in every bit of it. I just really wanted to watch their story. I didn't mind that it seemed to go on for a while, and it was necessary for the viewer to get the full story and see it come together in the end. It doesn't take itself too seriously, and it was oddly enjoyable. This is where I feel the spoiler part comes in to my review, because I detail a little more than I would like if talking to someone who hasn't seen the movie. It made me rofl because the first major part of the movie was just watching their process, some stumbles in their travels and watching a vague tension develop between the film crew and the locals. When something climactic does happen it is brief and quickly de-escalates. Even at 50 minutes in, with 43 minutes to go, you are still waiting for something big, and you think it is about to happen but then it de-escalates again. But finally an hour in and just 30 minutes to go, things start to ramp up. But even then, tension is only a little elevated, but things go a bit faster and at 18 minutes left things are building for the big show. With 11 minutes left, this is what I found hilarious and maybe a little abrupt, it turns into a boss fight in a dungeon in World of Warcraft. Figuratively, of course. If you watch you will see what I mean. After watching all but 11 minutes of the movie up to that point I just was not expecting that. I was amused. I enjoyed the story that leads up to the climax I had long awaited, and it made me chuckle, which is a bonus. Definitely not a waste of time, in my opinion. Show everyone ;)

None of this worksIt isn't funny enough to be a comedy. It isn't scary enough to be horror. The movie never commits to it's idea, and we are left with a tepid, half-baked mess. Now, I love a good fiasco. Few things are as entertaining as a well- intentioned, incompetent blunder with too much vision and no ability to edit. But you can't TRY to make a bad movie. You have to try to make a good movie and fail spectacularly in order for it to be funny. They're Watching is boring wannabe. It tries to excuse the annoying characters, bad acting, horrible script and thin premise with "I meant to do that", and it doesn't cut it. It isn't entertaining enough to get away with it.

I have done one other review then this and I'll start the same way as before. never let this or any other review stop you from watching any movie, no one truly knows why anyone likes a movie and the person next to you doesn't.I really like movies like Plan 9 and Robot Monster as well Cinderella Man all the marvel comics stuff a lot of mainstream hits a bunch of art house carp the classic German criminal film series M. A lot of different things. So This is a the absolute last found footage movie I can take all of these movies you see why someone holds on to the camera but here it is so ridiculous I don't think the person at the end is physically capable of holding it.so dumb so funny not scary all I did
