I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.

Well I watched the trailer and couldn't believe my eyes NILES starring in a serious role?!?! (he may have starred in many for all I know, if so I apologize!)Anyway, I had to see this. And what can I say, at first when I saw the trailer I sort figured out how I thought the movie would go, and boy was I..... WRONG. This movie has some twists and turns, it's written fairly well. There's a couple cringe-y parts in there but they are meant to be there. I can honestly say, I never expected where this movie went. I didn't see half of it coming, and it was great. This movie is unique. The acting was superb. I only wish I could watch David Hyde Pierce star in more films like this. This truly is a hidden gem. And don't take my word for it, look at the score up at the top yourself.... that isn't just handed out to ANY movie on IMDB... I hope you Enjoy!

What would happen if the tightly-wound Dr. Niles Crane (of TV's Frasier) finally lost it? In The Perfect Host, David Hyde Pierce provides a glimpse into one such possible outcome – with excellent results. As he prepares to host a perfect dinner party, Mr. Pierce is interrupted by a stranger at the door purportedly seeking refuge from a mugging. The stranger is actually seeking refuge from the police who are searching for him for an earlier bank robbery. As it turns out, he would have been better off with the police, as Mr. Pierce's character has a night full of unexpected and undesirable events planned for his guest. The performances of the two leads are excellent, with Mr. Pierce showing the dark side we little expect from him. The dialog is sharp and witty, and the plot's twists and turns all deliver.

Sometimes, low budget films with few locations and lesser-known actors are sent to B-movie oblivion - many in fact. However, I'm pleased to say that this isn't one of them.Sure, it doesn't have much action, it's only really filmed in one (major) location and (unless you used to watch Frasier) you probably won't recognise too many of the cast. It's even got a couple of questionable plot holes, but the fact it, the film was just too damn enjoyable to let any of that bother me.Just like the big-screen adaptation of 'American Psycho's' success was down to Christian Bale's excellent (and psychotic) performance, 'The Perfect Host's' charm is completely down to David Hyde Pierce's character. You can tell he's clearly loving doing what he's doing... and it shows.I won't go into too much detail about the plot, but it may just put you off dinner parties for life. It's a cheap, but enjoyable little black comedy/thriller/horror. It'll never compete with the Avengers or Avatar, but it is good fun if you have a black sense of humour.http://thewrongtreemoviereviews.blogspot.co.uk/

I will make this short for not spoiling to much of it. Understand me correctly. It is an acceptable movie and you should see it for the actors performances. But there is some things in the manuscript that really bugs me, and it is sad to say that this film could have been a classic if the writers just had spent some more time with it.Some places in the film I have a strong feeling of "lets make a shortcut here because we don't have enough time" or "lets just write this because I cant figure out something better". One example is the great coincidence of John meeting Warwick. In some way this is absurdly illogical. I love the idea of a psycho policeman and I don't need to know this from the beginning, but I need some kind of explanation why the two of them meet. Not by John finding a card in a the mailbox. Warwick is smart, and he could have tricked him inside his house in a much more refined way. There are also other spots that should had gone another round by the writers, but I wont go into them.
