Killer Mermaid (2014)

A film with more than the usual spoiler issues. Talking about it in any detail feels akin to handing you a gift-wrapped present and saying, "I hope you like it -- It's a thriller about a diabolical secret experiment."

This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.

After a promising start, this film fizzles out until around the three quarter of an hour mark, when the time taken to set the scene becomes worthwhile. The film buff will recognise a lot of themes common to horror, adventure, comedy and indeed romantic films. Two American girls arrive in the Mediterranean where they meet up with an old friend/lover from university; a group of teens are stranded in an eerie building, or in this case on an island, and they are of course well post-teen. Is this a supernatural enemy as suggested by the title and the promotional literature, or are we looking at human artifice? Well, the figure who was pouring a bucket of blood and human remains into that well looked terrestrial enough, even more so close up when one of the group wrestled his shotgun from him and was repaid with a slashed leg by his back up weapon. Now we come to the chase.The big question is how many if any of them will survive? As low budget movies set largely in the dark go, "Nymph" is thoroughly unpredictable down to the final dramatic scene. It may not win any awards, but you won't be sorry you watched it.

This film is rated 4.3 stars out of 10 and because of the low rating I was not expecting anything more than a cheaply done soft core half ass attempt at a horror movie. Well folks I've seen far worse rated at 7 stars and at this point I am putting far less faith in the ratings here or anywhere else. This flick is no blockbuster but it is definitely worth watching, it doesn't start out so hot but has a good horror story decent acting and it really picks up as it goes. This movie kinda reminds me of the old horror flicks with a heart touching ending we'd see at the drive in on weekends or midnight movie. As always I'm on the creature's side so I was rooting for the mermaid. LOL

Worst then Sharknado and is not the "best" worst like... is that awful. Such as it is, the story is a classic, school development plot filled properly announced crafts and discharging, what many would call the existing cliché whereby. I know what you're thinking. A movie about a killer mermaid, so it has to suck. That's the attitude I had when I sat down to watch this movie. However, it was very well done for what it was. They did a serious job on this film. The acting was pretty good, as was the story and the special effects. They spent about 30 mins of a 90 minute movie with character development, which is fine, because it made you at least get to know some of the characters. I'd recommend this movie, as long as you know it's not a blockbuster film. All I need is for a movie to be entertaining, and I thought that's what it was. I didn't look at my watch waiting for the movie to end. It was well done.I gave this film a 5-star rating because I really enjoyed it, and it was sooooo much better than I thought it would be. I thought this was going to be some stupid movie like Piranha 3DD or Varsity Blood. However, as I said, it was done in a serious way, and the people in this could act.
