Fortress 2 (2000)

This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.

It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.

Alright I have just revisited the 1992 "Fortress" movie on TV and immediately after they showed the 2000 "Fortress 2: Re-Entry" movie, so I sat through it as I haven't seen that before, much less even being overly familiar with it.I will say that this sequel is basically just a re-invention of the first movie, and as such it is a totally unnecessary movie in itself. It is basically everything that happened in the first movie, except that the sequel takes place on a Men-Tel facility orbiting planet Earth. Yeah, that is how brilliant the writers behind "Fortress 2" were; just take part one and re-write parts of it and change the location of the Men-Tel Corporation's facility.The story takes place seven years after John and Karen Brennick managed to flee the Men-Tel Corporation high security prison in the first movie, and they are living in a remote area, constantly on the run from Men-Tel. And apparently they have been helping some kind of underground resistance group to thwart the work of Men-Tel. But Men-Tel catches up with them and captures John, bringing him to a new prison facility...Alright, lots of similarities to the first movie, as I stated above. But there is one major flaw in the movie, it takes place seven years after the first movie, but for some reason the Brennick son is ten years old, although he was born at the end of the first movie. That was just a hilarious mistake. And the scene where John Brennick was outside in space in a jumpsuit only, without a proper space suit or an oxygen tank was just painful to watch; it was insulting to anyone with just an ounce of intelligence, as it was so unrealistic and silly.I found this sequel to be an unnecessary movie, especially if you have just seen the first movie or if you are just even familiar with the story of the first movie. However, if you watch "Fortress 2: Re-Entry" without having seen the first movie, then this sequel is actually an alright movie.The first "Fortress" movie was mediocre, but this shameless rip-off and re-invention of the first movie that passes as a sequel is just a step downward, in both enjoyment and story."Fortress 2: Re-Entry" doesn't even boast any impressive acting performances as the first movie did. There was no actors or actresses to match the performances of Jeffrey Combs or Kurtwood Smith from the first movie. I am not personally a fan of Christopher Lambert's acting skills, so there weren't any great performances that stood out in "Fortress 2: Re-Entry".This movie doesn't offer anything great in any way thinkable, and I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone. I guess if you are a big fan of Christopher Lambert, then the movie will have any worth to watch, otherwise, then it is just not really worth the effort. In my opinion, this movie should never have made it off the drawing board.

Fortress 2: Re-Entry is actually a good sequel, it's nice to see Chirstopher Lambert playing as John Brennick again. The violence from the first film isn't in this one as much but it's still there in parts.The idea of having a Fortress in space than underground was clever and adds something new. The prison director isn't as sinister as Poe in the first film but he is good.The special effects were OK and the prison looked good. Another interesting thing was instead of having a device that causes pain in the body we have a camera that allows the prison director to monitor them and stop them from escaping. But for John and a few other prisoners they can out smart this device and use a way to escape. Fortress 2 is a good sequel and sci-fi movie.

A sequel to cult director Stuart Gordan's fun and campy film from 1993. This time Brennick is once again caught by the super-evil Men-Tel corporation and locked in a facility orbiting the Earth. Naturally he soon begins planning an escape.Aside from the opening action scene which is OK the film starts to sink pretty fast. Relying too much on computer effects that are really sub-par - the first film cleverly used set design more than computer effects - and then there are some glaring plot devices that pretty much overshadow parts of the plot that are enjoyable. Cheesy computer effects are forgivable and can easily be looked on as a new-age camp, but the silliness of the plot of is poor script writing and that is almost impossible to forgive. You need a tight script for a good movie. Period.Also, if you thought the end to first film was cheesy then you'll like this film even less because the ending is even ridiculous by fairy tale standards. --- 4/10Rated R: violence and profanity

I think this one just had a better look & feel to it. I liked the atmosphere more than the first. I also would maybe watch this one again but I don't know about the first. It was too depressing. This one was fun. This director did what we wanted & didn't kill off all of the main characters. If Dday didn't die on the first I would have liked it more. It had too much of a mad max look to it which is a look I don't like. It's like a futuristic look but yet it's still dull looking. The second was just more fun to me. I just hate when directors will kill off my favorite characters one by one making it more & more depressing. I also really liked the whole space idea because I'm thinking to myself "how... is he going to get out".
