The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

Has anyone that raved about this movie ever been to Ethiopia. It sucks. We should not waste any time watching trash that tries and fails to get empathy and sympathy out of people in The United States of America. Our lives are not to worry or even affect other countries. They know SIN as much as we do. Yet this movie is about two Adulterers who believe the grass is greener. It lost $29 million at the theater. Netflix, only showing poorly taken movies, of course rants about how great it is. No, it is not. If any of it was based even a tiny bit on reality, that divorce and adultery are wrong, and that it hurts all of those around you, then you'd think twice. But, Hollywood has to show adultery time and time again. It's becoming the primary sub-theme to every movie produced. Angelina Jolie put on the most horrible performance ever. All the others in this film were so pathetic as real actors and actresses. I really wish I could sue the Director and Producer. This movie is pure fantasy, for those in the world that are so lost, they don't know God or Jesus at all. Show this in the middle east, and they would burn it. What a terrible waste of time.

Romantic adventure, marital crisis, and the tragedy of global hunger are combined with mixed but respectable results in Beyond Borders. It stars Angelina Jolie in a role that reflects her off-screen efforts as a United Nations goodwill ambassador. She plays a naive American socialite, unhappily married and living in London, whose life is revolutionized when a passionate doctor, played by Clive Owen draws her into the cause of humanitarian aid in the world's most dangerous political hot-spots including Ethiopia, Cambodia and Chechnya in the 1980s and '90s.Linus Roache, Teri Polo and Noah Emmerich co-star in this film directed by Martin Campbell.Sarah Jordan is an American living with her wealthy British husband, Henry Bauford, in London during the early '80s. At a charity benefit, she meets passionate relief worker Nick Callahan, who chastises the rich people for not helping out the needy in war-torn countries. Sarah is quickly compelled to join his humanitarian cause to fight the famine in Ethopia. She then follows him to Cambodia, where they start up a love affair and Nick gets involved in an arms-smuggling operation before they finally end up in Chechnya. This well-meaning film suffers from an identity crisis. Is it a globe-trotting love story?Or is it an impassioned political exposé? But one thing is for sure.It is an old-fashioned romance. The powerful scenes and fine performances can't entirely offset the flaws of the film and the ending is severely lacking.Overall,it is a melodrama with pretensions to humanitarian generosity.

Angelina Jolie and Clive Owens put such a great touch on this production with their truly convincing acting. They both seem to have personal investments in relief work for the refugees throughout the world and it came through in the film. Each new camp brought a special set of increasingly difficult obstacles for both to overcome. Him in his work, her in the love she felt for him.Through the corruption, disease, war and death the film takes you to places you haven't been before. Touching my very soul at some points it invoked all of my emotions and then some.It portrays the sad apathetic nature of governments turning a blind eye to human suffering in famine and war. A must see for the empathetic film viewer.

When I first saw this I teared up at how real it was. I wish that it made it to the cinemas. Angelina Jolie does a good job at pulling off her role it some what resembles the work she does in real life, I was very impressed. I really wish films like this would be made more often to open people up about whats really going on in the world. 6.0 stars! thats really sad, this film should have at least earned 7.5. The scenes in Africa make me cry. I was captivated until the very end, and not disappointed. Although its rated R I really recommend this film many ages main thing cursing, Clive Owen's part but it really is a powerful movie for all ages.
