A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.

This was one of my favourite films growing up in the 80s. Although it was made in the 60s I still liked the fantasy adventure style movies. I was lucky enough to grow up with Star Wars, Indiana Jones, back to the future and the likes but this is truly a classic. The story is one that we all know but it's the acting, pacing, music and special effects that's really sets it apart. It rumbles along at a nice pace with a solid storyline and regular moments or action. I would of liked to see more of Hercules and a stronger ending but what an achievement this film is. Simply a great watch even now. Hopefully it will be on again this Christmas.

I hate writing reviews based upon other people's comments and prefer to write my own, but for some reason there is so much negativity around this movie I simply felt obliged to give a positive review. I absolutely love this film, and is once of all time favourites. I love the special effects, I love the story line. I will say the acting quality in the film isn't the greatest, to be honest its a little poor which takes a star away. I would have liked to see more of Hercules character, but still its the story that matters to be and its solid. The modern special effects spoil some of the films, so its nice to watch older films with more believable effects. If you like your Greek mythology don't mind watching a classic Black and White film, you will love this, please just overlook the acting quality!

The real tragedy about 'Jason and the Argonauts' is that it'll probably never pick up any 'new' fans. It was made in 1963 and is a product of times past. It was created without the use of computers and relied on the magic of 'stop motion' camera-work to create some fantastic monsters which are truly unforgettable. I would imagine much of today's youth may not 'get' this film's classic charm. It's about the Greek warrior, Jason, who gathers a mighty crew in search of the legendary Golden Fleece which will give him the power to reclaim the throne that was his by right. If you want, you can laugh at slightly overweight men in 'nappies' with dubbed voices, waving swords at monsters that are clearly only added in post production. Or, you can suspend your disbelief and give the film its deserved credit for really making a memorable experience out of a fraction of what today's average Hollywood blockbuster would have at its disposal.Films like Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings (saga) are, of course, better made, better acted and with better special effects. Yet, as brilliant as they are, I doubt there have been many instances where the whole family has gathered together round the TV on a Saturday afternoon to cheer the heroes on.Jason and the Argonauts is not as serious as Lord of the Rings. To enjoy it you need to suspend your disbelief and simply go along for the ride. It's a product of its age and, although it may be showing just how old it is right now, it's still worth a watch if you enjoy pure fun movies (and that end scene with the skeletons has to be worth an hour and a half of your time!).http://thewrongtreemoviereviews.blogspot.co.uk/

Excellent fantasy adventure classic based off of the Greek myth about a hero named Jason leading a group of adventurers on a quest for the legendary Golden Fleece. A much-beloved movie that is still, to this day, the best film version of the Golden Fleece story. The cast is good, although Todd Armstrong and Nancy Kovack were dubbed for some reason. Kovack is gorgeous, by the way. It's hard to take your eyes off of her when she's on screen. The rest of the cast is full of reliable British actors like Niall MacGinnis, Laurence Naismith, Nigel Green, and Gary Raymond. Lovely Honor Blackman plays Hera. One has to wonder if Nigel Green was really the most fit actor they could get to play Hercules. He doesn't look the part but he certainly plays it with gusto. Bernard Herrmann's score is wonderful. The real star of the movie is Ray Harryhausen's stop-motion special effects. Harryhausen regarded this as his best film and it's easy to see why. The living statue of Talos, the Harpies, the Hydra, and the skeleton warriors are all Harryhausen classics. Possibly my favorite scene in the movie wasn't a stop-motion piece, though. It was when Poseidon pops out of the sea like a boss to help Jason. There's something so corny and yet cool about it. This is a great film that's lots of fun for young and old alike.
