Highlander: The Source (2007)

Very Cool!!!

To me, this movie is perfection.

A lot more amusing than I thought it would be.

This is a gorgeous movie made by a gorgeous spirit.

I was excited about it.I mean...there was still the"Another Highlander Movie...it's going to suck" feeling. You just know it's going to be a piece. The series was good, the original was good, but they never seemed to actually make another good Highlander movie.But, at the same time there was no Connor. It was the cast from the series. A part of me wanted to believe that they were going to finally give the audience what it wanted...You know, a Highlander movie staring Methos, Amanda, and Joe.Nope. We did not get that.We got a movie that felt way too much like Highlander II: The Quickening and we all know exactly how many people actually liked that.It looked a but too much like a low budget Highlander II.It had a plot that deviated away from the Highlander myth a little too much...just like Highlander II.It had the supporting cast, or at least some of them, that we loved...but they were under-used just like Highlander: End Game.So, all hopes aside, in typical Highlander fashion, what you have here is a movie with everything that everybody hated about the Highlander sequels.

You shouldn't be expecting cinematic greatness from a movie called Highlander: The Source. But for those who enjoy watching exceedingly bad movies, this movie is up there with Druids and Two If By Sea. I've seen better editing and special effects from community college drop-outs studying media communication or for local car dealership commercials. Trust me, here in Portland, we got some funny car commercials. Everything is poorly green-screened, the music sounds like a public domain CD meant to be played while LARPers gallivant, the camera is always close enough to see inside everyone's nostrils, there's a blur effect on everything from unnecessary backflips to... actually, this movie is nothing but unnecessary backflips. Everyone in this production is English so there's loads of bad teeth and people talking about "the sauce." However, this movie DOES feature Adrian Paul's best acting since he was a mummy on Charmed. If you like driz hollering and getting wasted with friends, watching horrid movies, this belongs in your collection.

As has been said this is pretty bad and low budget, but it's still watchable if you treat it more like a TV pilot or a TV episode rather than a cinema film, and after watching the television series you would be used to seeing the bad acting and lack of plot, also as it's only about 80 minutes it has the 'feel' of a TV episode, the ending has extra padded time filler, as it shows highlights of the film (like having a trailer for the film within it's own film?) And a kind of biblical ending where Anna, McCloud's wife gets pregnant (by God?)It also has some very Weird and wonderful crediting. Still bad and pretty lame but it could have been worst, as it's also anti church with the cardinal been crooked and betraying his friends (Judas?). Also for some strange reason they are all wearing tinted glasses. What more can be said? Bad sword fights, speeded up action, it's bad but NOT totally bad.
