Simply A Masterpiece

It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.

Even though the irascible Harlan Ellison partially disowned this movie, it is a decent adaptation of his story. Well worth seeing, it does more with it's budget than far bigger movies did. The dog is quite believable and carries the movie, while a young Don Johnson is passable. Well worth seeing.

This was fairly funny and well written, in a writerly sense, but what was supposed to be the emotional turn at the end didn't land for me because of the scripts, the movies, woman problem. So World War III just happened and the world's population and society as a whole were decimated, not to mention the fact that there aren't many women around to have sex with. And that's were Don Johnson comes in, or doesn't come in. With the help of his trusty dog, who he plies with food, he goes around looking for a woman to bang. He eventually finds one...and that leads to some unexpected consequences. Don Johnson is good in his seedy main role, and the dog steals the show. It has some novel scenes and fresh interplay between the Don and the Dog. Overall, the movie is witty and has some fun moments...but that's where the good words end...You can't have your lead character treat woman as only sex objects and then ask me to believe that he had any sort of relationship with the main female character. I didn't buy for a second that the girl had any emotional investment in him, nor did I believe that he ever saw her as anything more than a pin cushion, as nothing he did spoke to the contrary. So the notion that his relationship with his dog in any way grew thanks to the "relationship" with the woman was asinine. That brings me to what this movie was really about. An exercise in woman hating...and ultimately, that they're beneath dogs (and if you've seen the movie, you know what I mean). Other than that, there wasn't much else doing in this movie. It had a very small cast and very thin plot. The theme, as it were, sucked. It didn't work and along with the treatment of women sucked, there goes that word again, most of the enjoyment out of what was otherwise a decent little character driven post apocalyptic sci-fi movie.I've nothing against cruel and mean spirited movies, even if they aren't witty like this film is, as long as they have something to say. This film has nothing worthwhile to say, nothing defensible to argue for. It's just misogynist lit porn brought to film.

It looks a bit messy but then again it is an old film. It is quite nicely shot. It looks good for a film of this age but it does not sound good for any film. The audio quality is low. There is little dynamic range in the sound. You could tell what was going on but that is the highlight for the audio. The makers of Fallout have definitely seen this film! It is pretty good. The story is interesting and a different take on post-nuclear war life. A classic nuclear devastation movie that has many references in modern films and games.

Was not expecting to enjoy this film this much. It had the perfect balance and amount of quirkiness, humor, drama, and creativity. It takes a huge twist to the post apocalyptic genre.A teenage boy (Vic) and his telepathic dog (Blood) work together as a team in order to survive in the dangerous post-apocalyptic wasteland of the Southwestern United States. The dog promises him women to rape if the boy finds the dog food to eat. They come across a female of the underground city, who lures him down there to his unknown fate.Right away the idea of the telepathic dog intrigued me, not just the idea, but the voice and sound editing is amazing. It's really grounded in reality in a stylistic way. There's almost no music in the film, and the conversations between the two get heated up quick, making you feel the desperation of their situation.Everything is simply set up well. The quick prologue informs us of the aftermath of World War 4 turning everything to dust, a quick glance of the aftermath, an introduction to our characters etc. There's always something new happening regardless, it never gets repetitive or boring, especially with the constant bickering of the 2 main characters. It's like the fact that it's a dog and boy makes it automatically interesting to listen to.In the third act when the boy goes to the underground city to find the girl, he leaves his dog. This is where the film was ruined by some, the film's third act doesn't include the dog and apparently drags. I won't say they're wrong, but I will say it makes up for it simply for the final thing of dialogue in the film...nuff said. Trust me, it makes up for everything.I loved this all together. It just hit me right for some reason. It's not a phenomenon in the post apocalyptic genre, but it's a fresh touch to the typical wasteland setting, with interesting characters and plot. Highly recommended.
