This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE is The Asylum's stab at the zombie genre and an obvious homage/cash-in on the success of THE WALKING DEAD. It sees a disparate group of characters trekking across a post-apocalypse America, searching for salvation and risking their lives in a constant running battle with the undead. The film is hindered by a cast of rather poor actors and some very dodgy CGI effects, but in other respects it's surprisingly engaging. There's no denying that Nick Lyon is a poor director, or that the lead young actors are rather wooden, but screenwriter Craig Engler would go on to create the surprisingly entertaining TV series Z NATION and seeds of that show's success are visible here, not least in a solid pacing and plenty of low rent zombie action.Cast-wise, we're limited to an almost forgotten Ving Rhames in support (perhaps making up for his appearance in the execrable DAY OF THE DEAD remake) and a sighting of Lesley-Ann Brandt, who once propped up TV'S SPARTACUS. The most memorable thing about this film is the unexpected climax, and I can't work out whether it was genius or awful; a bit of both, I suspect. Certainly it's something you won't expect or have seen before in this sub-genre. Treat ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE as a TV movie precursor to Z NATION and you might just enjoy it a little, like I did.

After a zombie virus decimates and nearly destroys humanity, separate groups of survivors band together to reach a safe-haven and battle through the ravenous hordes of the undead to reach their destination. This was a decent enough zombie effort which has a lot to like. Among the best parts of this one comes from the fast-paced plot here, mostly due to the fact that this one just starts off immediately with the zombie invasion and never really lets up at all, continually going forward with a never-ending series of extremely fun, high-energy confrontations that manage to feature just a large number of action scenes. The opening attack on the trio in the abandoned ghost town is really fun as they continually appear and overwhelm the trio forcing the last-minute save which is an incredibly fun brawl, the later ambush in the sporting goods store and a fight in the school are quite fun attacks, though this one gets its best values in the later half. The big attack in the suburbs, where the group is overrun by the horde of swarming zombies that requires the save from the other roving band of survivors that also splits the group up, the rather fun encounters of each team as the main group encounters the zombies on the outskirts in several extended chase sequences as the split group gets deeper into the city on their own encounters with the zombies before finally meeting up again as the huge group dashes to the city docks away from the creatures and finally getting the all-out fun of the zombified creatures coming into play here with the final brawl to get clear in order to finally be safe. These here give this a rather large amount of action that carries throughout here that brings another big positive into play here with the high number of personnel in the groups also makes for some good times, due to the fact that it allows for more to succumb to the attacks as well as giving off more gore during those scenes, from the zombie violence and the blood and gore featured amongst it all that provide a lot of enjoyment. Along with the utterly enjoyable zombie make-up that gives the creatures a great look, that this one also features a decent enough back-story here to explain the world-wide epidemic actually coming to fruition in some decent addition action scenes, all of which give this one a lot to like that can hold off the film's few flaws. The main problem with this is the inconsistencies with the creatures as the fact that the zombies tend to fluctuate between the running kind or the slow, shambling kind all the time without any kind of merit paid to which one is used throughout the scene, and the distracting nature is somewhat off. The last problematic area is the usually typical but still noticeably bad CGI, not only utilized for the cityscapes off in the distance and all kinds of gunfire when it's noticeable that it wasn't fired at all but also gets used for the blood-splatter which occurs on both species and letting the wounds themselves appear as practical matters. Overall, it's still a lot of fun even with these flaws.Rated R: Graphic Violence, Language and violence-against-animals.

****WARNING POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT*************This Movie had really bad ratings all over. a lot of people did not like it for Various Reasons. I kinda went into watching this movie knowing not to expect much, after all it is a straight to TV movie. Or a some like to Call them "B Grade" Flicks. But I liked it, It was pretty good for those of us fans of the Genre. Pros: 1. I was truly shocked as to how well this movie did being it had a TV Movie Budget. 2. The filming of the Location was decent, or at least they tried to make the same neighborhood used throughout the Movie Apocalyptic. 3. The actors played their parts OK, their acting wasn't Academy Worthy, but definitely a lot better than most other TV (Especially SyFy Movie actors lol) 4. The overall story was written out pretty well, it wasn't a movie that was hard to follow like other Zombie Films.Cons: 1. The CGI was Horrible!, I don't want to be such a critique but my oh my it was bad. But I constantly have to remind myself that this isn't Zombieland, or 28 Days/Weeks Later. 2. They seem to have used the same extras for zombies over and over lmao. 3. The filming location was obviously the same through out the movie, They keep mentioning wanting to get to Catalina Island yet it seems they keep circling Catalina Ct. 4. The makeup on some of the extras was pretty bad, and some zombies could have apparently ran in the Olympics... 5. This list could go on.I'll end it like this, if you like the Zombie Genre, or Horror/Thriller/Comedy. Check this one out but take it with a grain of salt. I give this film an 8 for trying across all over the board, most other notable actors:when making a low budget film. Do a purposely horrible job, not this cast or crew. 8 out of 10 on a "B Grade" Scale... but on a normal big time Hollywood scale this movie deserves the 4 haha..Cheers my friends.

This movie was pretty bad. One of my favorite movies of all time is the original Dawn of the Dead. And one of my favorite directors of all time happens to be George A. Romero.I have noticed a revival of sorts of zombie themed movies in the last decade or so. I guess the most recent wave started with 28 Days Later and the Dawn of the Dead remake. In their wake, I have noticed a lot of badly made zombie films trying to cash in on their popularity.Zombie Apocalypse is bad. It sort of reminds me of the badly made Italian zombie films from the 80's: rambling plot progression, poorly written script and characters, badly made up zombies and poor special effects. Only thing that differentiates this film from those Italian films is that the characters here speak English and are not dubbed. At least the Italian films' poorly dubbed dialogue provided amusement and unintentional humor to them, making them somewhat watchable at least. Unfortunately, Zombie Apocalypse has neither the camp factor nor the unintentional humor to make it watchable in any way.But the true sad part is this: What the heck is Ving Rhames doing in this movie? I am beginning to notice him more in a lot of badly made straight-to-video films in recent years. I understand that he has bills to pay and family to feed, but please don't completely throw away your artistic integrity for a quick buck. Come on.I am giving this film a 4 out of 10, because it is a zombie film.
