While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.

This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

Steven R. Monroe is a hack. He has gone on to direct some Hallmark-style Christmas TV movies in recent years, but before then he helmed the first two I Spit on Your Grave remake films. While the first is slightly better due to a tighter script with more compelling villains, the sequel stills manages to slam home the awfulness of sexual assault and rape. While many may consider the films rapesploitation, I would argue that the film doesn't flinch from the violent and sexual rape scenes as to sober the viewer and hammer in how awful and disgusting rape truly is. What makes the second film even scarier than the first is the topic of human-traffiking and how this woman is sedated in New York and wakes up in Bulgaria, not knowing how she got there. It felt like the rape and inciting kidnapping/captivity scenes take up more of the film than the first film's rape scenes did, as long as even they were. And while the terror and confusion and depravity are captivating and stomach-turning, the film's final act, where they victim is given all the power to get her vengeance, just doesn't hit as hard as it did in the first movie. All the genital torture and gory justice is here, it's just not as compelling. While the actress in Part 1 was convincing in her desperation and vindictiveness, the actress in Grave 2 only convinces in the agony of the first 2/3 of the movie. She is VERY convincing, even Oscar worthy. But she just doesn't convince as a revenge-seeking fatale. Overall, the movie is definitely worth a watch, especially for fans of the franchise, or this kind of movie. Just approach with caution if you're triggered by sexual assault or rape, and don't watch with a full stomach. I wish Steven R. Monroe would use his directing talent for more projects like this, not Christmas TV films. He would do well to do a VOD Hostel sequel or a Saw film.

Quite simply why make this movie? No redeeming features at all.The film depicts sickeningly graphic scenes of rape and despicable violence to a completely innocent young woman. This is followed by her 'revenge'.How is this entertainment? Given that this is a sequel and thus a rehash of the same loathsome storyline makes the reasoning behind making it even more difficult to understand.I suspect those who enjoy this sort of movie have some serious issues which allow them to find gratification from such trash! Shame on the cast for taking part!!!

Me personally I liked the movie. I do not think it was as good as the first movie, but it was miles better than the third movie. I was going to try and give an honest review without spoilers, but I just don't think I can. Most of the abuse in the movie was very believable, good acting all the way around. The problem I had was how she escaped death. It's just not believable at all. Unlike the first movie. Every part of that movie had me glued to the TV trying to figure out what was going to happen next. This one though, while it kept you entertained. I just feel the torture scenes were just bleh. It seemed to me that they wanted to try and out do the first movie in the torture department, but it fell short. It fell way short. It was just too..... I don't really know how to put it into words. It was torture to torture. Unlike the first movie where it was still torture, but the bad guys were technically torturing themselves. Or I guess a better way to explain is that they were torture traps. This movie though it was just her torturing them to death. I'm sorry, while I really enjoyed the movie. I just think if fell a little short. But it's a sequel. You kind of expect it.

I don't understand what the late, great Roger Ebert didn't like about these films. They're powerful and not for everyone, that much is for sure, and it could be said the original wasn't very well made, but simply having a problem with the philosophy of them doesn't make sense to me. Woman go through terrible, traumatic instances like this in real life every day. That is a fact. A fact people might like to forget or ignore but a fact all the same. So what harm is there in seeing a person get a little revenge. There's more justification in that than say a film like 'Hostel', where people are simply evil for the sake of being evil and almost no justice is done in most cases. I like this series of films. There's a tremendous sense of satisfaction felt at the end. People get what's coming to them in the most brutal of fashions. It helps that they're very well made. Director of this and the first one Steven R. Monroe has really impressed me with his filmmaking skills. Even though this follows a very similar format to the first film, the two feel nothing alike and you certainly don't get the "seen it all before in the original" feeling at any stage. Jemma Dallender in the lead role also greatly impressed me. I didn't think she was quite as perfectly suited to the role as Sarah Butler was, but she more than made up for it with share intensity. These can't be easy roles for the actresses to undergo but they are taking them on with determination and Monroe's obviously directing them perfectly. Overall a very good sequel, perhaps even better than the original. I look forward to the third one.
