In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.

Dwight (Macon Blair) lives in a blue rust bucket vehicle as an unkempt homeless person, living out of dumpsters, petty thievery, and an occasional home break-in. He is our antagonist protagonist in a different sort of crime drama. It seems Dwight's has not been able to move on after Wade Cleland shot and killed his parents.Upon finding out that Wade has been released from prison, this sets off an odd family feud with a minor twist of past events.Macon Blair played an interesting, yet unexciting Dwight. The story line is different from the typical formula which is what makes the film interesting. However, there were numerous boring scenes like Dwight being informed, eating a sandwich with his sister, or walking along the beach. How about a flashback scene to make Dwight's current life seem realistic?Parental Guide: F-bomb. No sex or nudity.

Blue Ruin is easily one of my favorite movies. I'm a huge revenge/thriller movie fan and Blue Ruin exceeded my expectations. Excellent story and acting is very well done. If you're looking for a thrilling movie with great action and revenge give it a shot. Movies like these don't get the credit they deserve!

A brilliant title for a great film that develops a casual and contemporary noir plot in record time. Pure gender with very intense rhythm, original and atypical. Crude and cold though with small manifestations of black humor. It uses a well-known resource: the presence of the blue color in practically all shots, perhaps in a less poetic way than in Kieslowski's Trois couleurs: Bleu, but equally important for the message of its aesthetics, of its atmosphere. It found an interesting way to introduce the protagonist. A charming portrait of a hero who does not oppose the hectic succession of events. That does not deny its destiny. He accepts the events. The film boasts of a certain weakness by the criminal clumsiness, the amateur violence and the improvised revenge although very plausible. This movie works. And very well. You can bet on it. Anyway it is so fast that even if you do not like it will be over before you know it.

It might be a bad habit of mine but I like to compare a movie to other movies I have seen. And I compare Blue Ruin to Child of God, another fabulous albeit very upsetting movie. Both movies have rather unknown actors in it, they were done using very little money, they have interesting stories and they are directed by people who have skills, so in this way they are the complete opposite of Nocturnal Animals. Without giving the plot away, Blue Ruin starts really slow with the main character appearing to be almost unlikable, sort of like the characters in a L.F.Celine story, but then the plot starts to develop and lucky for me, I went to the washroom before the movie started, because there was no way I would have missed even a minute of that splendid movie or Odin forbid, pause it.
