There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes

Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.

This movie, really was a blast to watch. Visually, this is everything you want out of a quick paced movie. A lot is made of the many extended single take scenes, for good reason, but they don't ever get too distracting and just serves to make the world so much more dynamic. Even the color grading of this movie is absolutely perfect. This movie just looks so damn good. Everything else though, is very debatable. The world building, is very haphazardly done. Which is a shame because this could be a very interesting world to explore. But exposition pours out of everyone's face like water. The dialogue is surprisingly corny and shmaltzy. Like I felt like I was watching a Spielberg movie at times with how forceful this movie was with these melodramatic sentiments. Which, juxtaposed, with this dark and gritty world makes it all feel so awkward. Finally, the acting was honestly atrocious. Partially because of the sub par script, but also because of straight up bad casting. Clive Owens and Julianne Moore were decent, with Clive Owen showing glimpses of brilliance. Michael Caine was good beside having some of the worst dialogue. Everyone else though was just so stiff and boring in their performance. It is a real shame. Because the visuals are amazing, and is really the only reason to watch this movie. The story itself could've been interesting, but the script and the actors just ruined it. Please watch it though. It's worth it.

While I appreciate the well-meaning and important message behind 'Children of Men', its on-screen execution is extremely disappointing. This might be a sci-fi film but, given it's supposed to be portraying a real life scenario in the near future, the storyline should at the very least have some substance and believability to it. Unfortunately I couldn't buy into any of what was happening and it never really had me fully engaged. The problem is that nothing in 'Children of Men' is ever explained, including the most crucial part of the plot - why have women become infertile? We are just expected to go along with everything that happens without questioning why or how. The film becomes more and more implausible as it goes along, with an ending that is rather appropriately uninspiring and far-fetched. On a side note, if this film is supposed to be set 20 years in the future, why does everything from the cars to the TVs look exactly the same as in 2006?

This is one very, very scary film. I originally saw it when it was released in 2006. At the time I thought it was just an over-the-top, unrealistic, dystopian story. But after 12 years, the Trump election, many countries embracing totalitarianism and fascistic leaders, not to mention the impact of climate change on migrants and refugees, I now see how this film was way ahead of its time, maybe a future that can really happen, better than anything Kubrick might have conceived (e.g., Dr Strangelove, 2001, Clockwork Orange). Watch it, and then pray this is not our real future.

I liked this flick, because of good acting and originality. However, I think there's a lack of logics. I wouldn't qualify it as a "Realistic" scene. Although now (2018) I fear some aspects seem pretty much so, currently the problems are generally caused by over population, in an exploding way, not under population. If the scenery would be reality that a problem of massive infertility would occurs (sad sad sad the faith of newborn Dylan at the end, who will statistically have to survive 18 years lonely, at the end of her life, although I cannot imagine she is really the only one; if she is born, others must have been born, maybe rarely depending on the unknown cause of infertility, but still), I would guess European governments would enthusiastically welcome immigrants, to deal with their old grey people worries, not lock up immigrants.
