All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

This is a sparkling bonbon of an entertainment that kids and grownups alike can enjoy as a slew of entertainment's brightest stars portray beloved Mother Goose characters who help Mother Goose's son solve the mystery of his missing mom. (The Three Blind Mice (Bobby Brown) as film noir detectives! The Three Little Kittens ('80s band the Stray Cats)as a rock band! Georgie Porgie (Art Garfunkel) as the owner of a nightclub and Mother Hubbard (Elayne Boosler) running a diner! Gotta love it!)My only complaint is that David Bowie appeared nowhere in the cast (but then I'm a Bowie fan)The music is infectious and sticks in the brain and the costumes and sets are adorably quirky.I recommend this movie highly, whether you're 4 or 104+ or anywhere in between

Today is the twentieth anniversary of this movie's premier on The Disney Channel which was May 19, 1990. Although it wasn't one of the best movies I had or have ever seen I do remember watching it on this day with fond memories. Both the world at large and the Disney Channel were sooooooooo different back then, and if you ask me they played so much more positive and worthwhile roles than now. The 1980's which were the decade in which I spent my childhood had just ended, so much was left over from it and the glory and endless possibility of everything was everywhere. I also have vivid memories of the announcer of the Disney Channel announcing the best things that were upcoming and incredible series. Mother Goose Rock'N'Rhyme was as innovative as it was breathtaking and like Faerie Tale Theater (which Shelly Duvall who stares in this movie was the creator) it featured stars among the biggest of the day. I'll be back here with more later, but for now let this movie's twentieth anniversary shine!

Mere words cannot justify the meaning and social commentary that this film makes. It personifies the isolated feeling from "reality" that all humans feel from time to time, and as a bonus does so with our favorite pop culture sock, movie and TV stars! Where else can you see Cyndi Lauper with, Pia Zedora, Katey Sagal, Harry Anderson (sorry, no magic tricks), Paul Simon, The Stray Cats, Art Garfunkel, ZZ Top, and Woody Harrelson dressed as a cigar smoking sheep? Maybe in Rhymeland...
