A Christmas Melody (2015)
Kristin has just had to close her small Manhattan clothing boutique to return to her Ohio home town and live in her parents' former home. It's an adjustment for Kristin and her young daughter— especially when she runs into her former high school rival. Kristen and Emily struggle to find their new normal with the help of the hunky local music teacher.

It is a performances centric movie
All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
This movie was terrible. Awful. It's like they took off the shelf Hallmark Christmas movie plot points and tried to stir them together. As long as they are in the movie, they count? Real Santa pretending to be a fake Santa...check. Small town...check. Love interest from back home...check. High profile job in big city...check. Daughter of somebody...check. Aunt/Mom who runs a diner...check. But it didn't work, and it shows.This apparently was Mariah Carey's directorial debut - and it shows. She was mostly in fuzzy head shots making me think she not on set and they shot all her individual TV moments on a separate day.Why Santa decides to be a janitor and call himself "Thomas" instead of the usual "Nick" is beyond me. The acting, dialog, pacing, and everything was just bad, not even cheesy, just bad. The only person I liked was the guy who plays the host in UnReal.
Enjoyed this movie, of course typical Hallmark fare. At first, I thought this was Mariah Carey's acting debut, but according to the Comcast program guide, she has done two others. One she flopped,the other did apparently very well. It seemed like she was so intent on directing herself, with the many spotlighted close- ups that her acting fell flat in this movie. The real star of the movie was Fina Strazza who played nine year old Emily Parson.
Lacey Chabert and Brennan Elliott are the leads in this Christmas movie. What could be better than reuniting the All of My Heart duo, right? Well surprise because the answer is Fina Strazza. This kid is so cute. Her face is adorable and she knows how to use it on screen. She can sing too. And she is totally the star of this movie. Seriously - you have to see this girl.Chabert and Elliott do their job too. Clearly they work well together. At least this time they didn't throw paint.Mariah Carey plays a really arrogant and just plain mean mom who thinks everything is about her kid.The story is just too sweet. Lots of great things happen. Many will say it is too sappy, but one person's sappy is another person's perfect Christmas movie.

Having a hard time adjusting, the daughter seeks help from her music teacher to write a song for the Christmas variety show.Mariah Carey did fine job. The story is cute. For a first time director she knew how to stage a scene and create a mood. Is this a groundbreaking film "NO". Did the film fail? "NO" The film has a few messages here and there but that's fine with me. Its entertaining. I would watch this again "Maybe". I hope this film was a big enough success that Mariah gets another chance to direct another film
