The Rig (2010)

I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.

The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;

It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.

An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

The idea of something monstrous loose on a storm-lashed oil rig is a very appealing one. A more remote, dangerous outpost it is difficult to imagine. Director Peter Atencio makes good use of a clearly low budget and ushers in a moody and claustrophobic atmosphere, fills it with a gruff working crew, and Writer CW Fallin brings them to life with some often witty dialogue. This, I always think, is the key to a level of success that belies budget – make the characters appealing (or most of them, at least) and the audience are affected by what happens to them.What happens to them is a fairly impressive series of death-by-monster. Many of these attacks are genuinely shocking, not so much in their execution – which is fine but hardly spectacular – but in the way they occur at the least expected moments.It's disheartening to see a fair amount of negative online reviews for this. It doesn't take someone as insignificant as myself to point out that everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it would be a shame to think that people slate this purely because of its low budget – which, on the evidence here, isn't THAT low. The insulting 'anyone who votes this more than one star is in some way associated with the movie' is a very narrow-minded and untrue viewpoint.It plods in places, and the finale is somewhat protracted, but there are some impressive directorial flourishes that further compound the remoteness of the location. This Alien-like horror run-around won't change your life, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

During a tropical storm, an assortment of badly written crew characters must deal with the rough weather as well as a mysterious creature who finds itself aboard the rig. Whenever 4 or more writers work on the same movie script, it's usually not a great sign (if said film is an anthology that rule doesn't apply, but this is not the case here) The plot is trite, the characters somehow cliché and bland at the same time, and the film as a whole is not nearly entertaining enough to make the huge detriments ignorable. This Movie was a total waste of time it has nothing but crappy camera angles and terrible sound also the effects were dumb. I highly doubt that the special effects artists from Alien vs. Predator had anything to do with this... ..It was a waste of $10 when I could have just gotten Billy Madison for the same amount and got some good laughs instead of feelings of this was terrible. If you want to get this movie I say wait until you see it go on sale me and my friend saw it and thought we were interested until we put it in and sat down and watched it. I see the only reasons to get this are bragging rights about having more movies than anyone else or if you are interested in collecting everything that has an actor that was in a Disney show/movie.

The people who have written the reviews with more than one star are in someway associated with the movie.Such a god-awful mess of a movie this is! Someone said that the plot was from a Kremlin Vault. They were wrong. The plot, the direction, the acting, the music, the everything will make something from the deepest recesses of Kremlin look fresh as photo-ready basket of assorted fruit.The producer would have been better off had he invested in a pile of garbage trying to run for president.The only good thing about the movie is its poster.Giving a wide berth to this movie isn't going to help, you should actually miss the whole train.
