It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional

Absolutely second-rate. The only thing to be remembered was the darkness on the screen. There should be more of it to see less what was going on. Acting and kids were not bad though but the story and the camera just awful. I have made a note of the name of M. De Van to escape it if I ever come across it. I have a lot of spare time but it is a nuisance still to have wasted 90 minutes on this.

'Dark Touch' is very much open to suggestion. We are left with the impression of what is going on, but allowed to be certain of nothing.Young Naeve may well be abused by her parents, she may well have caused the conflagration that killed them. It is likely that she has some empathic understanding of other abused children, and it seems that they combine their unspecific telekinetic powers to gain a brutal kind of revenge.Naeve seems both terrified of and embracing of her powers. Her parents and those who try ham-fistedly to understand her exchange meaningful glances with one another, but nothing is really said and no true progress is made.'Dark Touch' is mostly filmed in stark, cold colours and visually contains many elements typical of horror films, of hauntings, and themes of possession. And yet this variant of (disturbing yet fantastic) themes is coupled with the (very real and abhorrent) subject of child abuse, which makes it difficult to categorise. Not that categorising a film is necessarily a desirable thing to do; often films that blur the line between subjects are very effective, but the approach often means that thematically, too many subjects are explored and none in satisfying detail for them to be truly effective.

I remember watching this little film and thought I should watch it again. The story opens to a young girl named Niamh who's parents died on a horrid night by some unknown force. But when really.. it was Niamh all along. What I thought was interesting about this film was the girl and how the people handle her after her parents death. The only two people who were doing things right with her, are of course the welfare woman and her baby's daddy- not forcing her to touch them or anything. The other parents, however.. were forcing her to do things that weren't making her comfortable, not making her trust them enough (i.e. barging in the bathroom, forcing hugs and touches on her), which you are not suppose to do with a child who has been abused. And I will say; the children killing part was confusing at first-- But I believe Niamh killed them because she thought she was "saving" them from their "abusive" parents.

Written and directed by Marina de Van, DARK TOUCH is a psychological thriller. In a remote country home in Ireland, 11 year old Neve(Missy Keating) is the soul survivor of a bloody massacre. Her mother and father and little brother appear to be savagely attacked and the officials believe homicidal hooligans are to blame. Neve keeps repeating that the house did it. The social services place the traumatized young girl with close friends of the family. Get ready for creepy! The nurturing couple do all they can to help Neve overcome the tragedy; but something dangerous and evil is ready to attack again. If you watch very closely you can get a hint at what leads up to these horrible events. And on the other hand, after sitting through a terrible ending...you leave skeptical and a tad incoherent. Miss Keating is wonderful in this role. Rounding out the cast: Padraic Delaney, Marcella Plunkett, Charolotte Flyvholm, Steve Wall, Simon Boyle and Richard Donner.
