Unshakable, witty and deeply felt, the film will be paying emotional dividends for a long, long time.

90's me would want to jump in time and kick my old ass for saying this but Damon does a good job, as he usually does. Ugh, Gigli proved I backed the wrong buddy. This movie is a must see for Damon fans and anybody who wants to know more about the fracking industry. It has good info AND it doesn't have to pump you full of toxic chemicals to get some laughs out of you. It's a pretty good show and I can watch it every 5 years or so.

This film opposed to the US Natural Gas production was 100% financed by state owned "media production company" of the largest competing Natural gas producer in the world -- UAE.Before you down vote me that fact go to the wikipeia page for this film. It is fully sourced and footnoted, backed up by CNN, which did an investigation. the producer pairing includes companies that produced this also produced "inconvenient truth" and several films where UAE has a direct competitive interest. And the film is wrong on a huge number of facts. For example the scene where we see Damon/Butler negotiating with a landowner, signing him to a lease for $2,000 per acre and an "8% share of the profits. The minimum given ever in Pennsylvania is 12.5% and that is 12.5% of the gross, which is more like 30% of the net. In other words the landowner puts nothing toward expenses and takes at least 12.5 of the gross, not the much smaller net. 12.5% of gross is about 35% of net. So 35% not "8%"And franking has been done in MILLIONs of well since the mid 1940's. Obama's own EPA head said there has never been one case of contamination of groundwater.

I didn't include this movie in my video run with Frances and it was an error. But it was understandable to be as cautious as lately, American movies have plunged into harmless conformism with bad directors, bad cast praising sex, money, authority and violence ! In other words, audience are kept entertained but not enlightened. As this movie is just the opposite, it was really good ! Maybe it's a bit binary but at least we have data from both sides to make an opinion : as it's told, families and earth are involved and it's not that easy to decide and balance. But if the process needs careful evaluation, the movie shows clearly what we can't accept and that is lies, treachery, duplicity in the name of greed ! With that plot, the cast is indeed remarkably well chosen because Frances is really labeled being straight, docile while Damon is really the good guy ! It was also great to go to another Smallville and it's was a discovery to learn that this rural America is also threatened by desertification like my old country ! But the real difference is the democratic answer as depicted in the movie in which America seems to let its citizens decide where in my country, it's our Président- curator who decide alone for 60 millions. That's why the movie was so much interest for me as we can see a real debate to go for or refuse shale oil while in France it has been totally forbidden without any consultation !

Thank you UAE for backing a delightful comedy about the competition for your wonderful export. As a former general partner in an Oil & Gas Exploration venture based in Dallas, I was intrigued to uncover the great debate over fracing. Looks like I was more than blessed in the many rewards in viewing this film by educating the masses in the rural dumb folk mentality, how to build an entire town fair with your own two hands, and how young entrepreneurs hate tips!! Once Damon gets promoted to the big kids table all hell breaks loose when he gets a conscience and this after getting the VP of Land Management position in the city! It was a lurid white knuckler until the great reveal and all I wanted to know is did he get the girl. So much for fiction, fantasy and fracing.I was not on site for the filming of Gasland but it kinda looked grim and the fact that Putin is pushing for world domination....again....all this survival nonsense is actually working to keep that petro dollar live n kickin. So you figure all the casualties of war greatly overshadow a few farm animals and we do not slide into oblivion like other nations.I, for one, am a tree hugger to the max, however, not at the price of freedom and a semblance of democracy. So, hats off to UAE for letting us know you are very, very afraid of us. Love it!PS-The corporate plant was obvious after Open Mic Night! DUH!
