Disney eventually buy fox
The big event! Disney recently raised its bid for 21st century fox to $71.3 billion, up from $65 billion a week ago from comcast. Fox has agreed to the offer, foreign media reported. Disney will then buy most of 21st century fox's media assets and take on $13.8 billion of fox's debt.
Disney's takeover battle with comcast has ended since 2017. Comcast, a provider of cable, broadband and IP telephony services, has enormous influence in the us and can afford to take on Disney. In December 2017, Disney announced that it would buy part of 21st century fox for $52.4 billion in stock, but it was not accepted. After that, comcast offered $65 billion and was eventually beaten by Disney's high price.
Notably, last week's $84.5 billion takeover of time warner by AT&T, America's biggest telephone company, was "cleared" by the court, which ruled it was not a monopoly. Combined with this week's change in Disney's bid for 21st century fox, it is clear that a big acquisition is on the way. More big deals are likely to follow in the us entertainment industry.
