Éternité (2023)
In this short film directed in the style of Andrei Tarkovsky, eternity and the downfall of the Soviet empire are explored in a deeply symbolic and poetic way. The film follows a protagonist as they traverse a desolate landscape, reflecting on the transient nature of life and the inevitability of death. I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.
The first must-see film of the year.
A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
