It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.

It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

Danny Lee Sau Yin, is known to most Westerners by The Killer. But in Hong Kong many people know him because of his movies, and not because of Chow Yun Fat or Ringo Lam. Up to date his best efforts from 80's are Law With Two Phases and The Law Enforcer. In fact these two films have very big similarities. Both were written, directed and starred by Lee and produced by Frankie Chan Fan Kei. Both were nominated for best actor award at Golden Horse awards,(Danny Lee won the best actor award for Law with Two Phases at HKFA and Golden Horse Awards. What i like most in these films and prefer than Killer, Better Tomorrow and others are action sequences and gun battles. They are far more realistic than the one's directed by John Woo. Plus Lee's movies are more violent, adrenalin filled rather than melodramatic. It has a simple but yet serious and interesting script. And most of all, Danny plays his role much better than the most actors of that times. I don't know what more i can write, but if you like 80's Hong Kong movies and music, then you have to watch this great picture.

Danny lee will not be forgotten for his excellent acting in his JohnWoo/Ringo Lam collaborations but little know shoot 'em ups like thisare actually not bad. I was in Chinatown cruising for some new titles and I noticed some 5dollar Tai Seng laser disc to DVD titles for short money, so I say whatthe hell why not? Ends up I picked up "The Law Enforcer" and "The LawWith To Phases" which was also decent(both directed and starring Lee). They're not John Woo movies but Danny Lee knows the genre and makesdecent crime films. And his feel for the genre is much more authentic(seeing as Lee actually aspired to be a real life cop) and the plotsboth favor the police side but Lee's performances are quite good andthese short but fun little movies pack a punch! The music is pretty outdated and corny but hey? It was the eighties!
