I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

Another reviewer on this site described KUNG FU GIRLS as being a Chinese version of CHARLIE'S ANGELS. They couldn't be further from the truth. If you want to see the Chinese version of CHARLIE'S ANGELS, I recommend checking out SO CLOSE with Shu Qi, which for all its cheese was a mildly entertaining little movie in its own right. By comparison, KUNG FU GIRLS is a disaster. The first thing that becomes apparent when watching this film is the lack of budget. It looks amateurish and the poor quality of the acting doesn't help, with only prolific starlet Anita Yuen standing out. It's a plot less affair in which the premise makes little sense; a business decides to drum up popularity by turning four of its female workers into a pop group, so they have to go to a Shaolin temple and train in the martial arts. If you can work that out, then let me know. The worst thing about this so-called movie is that the title is a complete misnomer. There are a few training sequences in this and some extraordinarily poorly-choreographed action at the climax, but it's not a martial arts film at all. Instead we get a lame teen comedy with excruciating dialogue and the usual round of bullying, rivalry, and romance. It's eye-gouging stuff, and a real chore to endure.

The English title of this movie is Kung Fu Girls, which would seem to promise a cool, action-packed movie. However, this is basically a children's movie about four Taiwanese teenage girls who are working on getting marketed as a pop band, with the "Kung Fu Girls" moniker as their big gimmick. In order to look like they know kung fu, they are sent to a Chinese temple for a month for training. As you'd expect from material like this, there is a lot of giggles, plenty of typical teenager problems and intrigues and very little real action. Oh, "exciting" things certainly happen to the girls (for instance, their plans are foiled when a bad guy from the record company steals their idea and creates the "Taek Won Do Boyz"), but it's too silly to be realistic, and too realistic to be of much interest to anyone except the t(w)eenage girls this movie is aimed at.I was fooled by the title, of course, expecting some sexy action, but that was not the case. Even so, it is probably an entertaining movie for its target audience. My rating: 5 out of 10.

The literal translation of the title of this movie is: the team of Chinese lassie of martial arts. This movie is roughly the Chinese equivalent of Charlie' Angels, without the high tech gadgets. Like those actresses in Charlie' Angels who has pretty faces but lack actual fighting skills, the actresses in this movie are certainly no martial arts experts, and they do not even come close to the elementary Chinese martial arts athletes , so like those actresses in Charlie' Angels, the actresses in this movie must also resorts to cranes, cables, and special effects to make the fighting scene realistic.
