What Makes Daffy Duck (1948)

Beautiful, moving film.

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

. . . Daffy Duck says as a smug aside to viewers after out-foxing both Elmer Fudd and an actual fox at the end of WHAT MAKES DAFFY DUCK? As always, Millennials "in the know" will not need to drill down very far beneath the surface to decipher which upcoming 21st Century American Calamities, Catastrophes, Cataclysms, and Apocalypti the always Cassandra-like Looney Tuners meant to portend with WHAT, especially if they watched this Nov. 18, 2016. That's the date Abe Lincoln tipped over in his Springfield, IL, tomb, as his successor 28 times removed (that is, President-Elect Rump) declared Open Season on ALL U.S. Citizens of Color (denoted by Daffy's dark coloration) with the appointment of a one-time Klansman as U.S. Attorney General. This means that 1,038 pending prosecutions for violations of Constitutional Amendments Nos. 13-15 will be dropped come Jan 20. "Title" searches are now underway at Ancestry.com for some of the most potentially "lucrative" American Blacks (including Oprah, LeBron, and Denzel) as Lazy Racist Southerners assume that Rump will use the U.S. Supreme Court pick stolen from Obama to appoint an even more Rabid "Originalist" than was the late Justice Scalia. This newcomer will lead the drive to nullify Lincoln's Legacy and the Sacrifice of 300,000 Union Martyrs to return to our Original U.S. Constitution,, every word of which was written by Lazy Racist Southerners.

This is a wonderful Daffy Duck cartoon, that is everything I like in a typical Looney Tunes cartoon, it is witty, fast paced, quick-witted and funny. Daffy himself is brilliant, manic and hysterical and Mel Blanc's voicing is one of the best assets to a short that is already perfect. Fox and Elmer are effective supporting characters, and make the most of the rapid and razor sharp material. Great music, a simple and fun story and fluid animation are other things to like about "What Makes Daffy Duck".Overall, this is a great cartoon, and I do recommend it! 10/10 Bethany Cox

Ooh, It's ducking season and guess what? Daffy Duck is a duck! Don't tell anyone, please. It's a secret. Two hunters want him. A fox and Elmer Fudd. You're going to let that fox take him, Elmer? He's your duck. You're going to let Elmer talk to you like that, Fox? He's your duck. The fight is on.An interesting cartoon. A daffy duck cartoon not about World War II and full of the Daffy Duck you know and love. Don't forget the old Duck costume trick. Daffy Duck couldn't fall for that. You don't know Daffy well enough. Ha! He can smell an imposter from -5 feet away. The river, silly. Ha.I recommend this cartoon for anyone.

When we first meet the famously wacky quacker in "What Makes Daffy Duck", he explains to us how hard it is to be a duck during hunting season, the way that one always has to hide from everything. But then, Elmer Fudd and an unidentified fox catch sight of him and proceed to vie for him. Needless to say, Daffy always knows how to outsmart them both.One might interpret this cartoon as an analogy for the Spanish-American War. Both countries wanted control of Cuba and fought each other over it - they never considered letting Cuba become independent - much like how Elmer and the fox fight over Daffy with no thought as to how he feels.Of course, I'm the sort of person who reads a little far into stories, so I'm probably seeing something that's not really there. "WMDD" was most likely intended as zany entertainment to get shown before a feature film (and it is really funny). Daffy is his usual far out self - pulling a shower out of mid air, and later doing the same with oil - while Elmer is the eternal sap, as Daffy offers him a contract at Warner Bros (I guess that movie studios never miss a chance to advertise themselves).Anyway, really good.
