Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.

A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

As much as I enjoy movies based on real killers and psychopaths, then "Starkweather" just never managed to impress in any way. And to be bluntly honest, then it was an unfathomably boring movie. The story started out at a slow, monotone pace and never really got up into a pace where it became enjoyable or interesting. As for the acting, well it wasn't particularly impressive. However, it was not the fault of the actors and actresses, it was because they had absolutely nothing to work with from the script and director Byron Werner. And not even Lance Henriksen could manage to salvage this train wreck. With a slow paced storyline, a movie about serial killers should at least have some interesting things to offer in the macabre. But even here "Starkweather" didn't deliver. There was just no feeling to the movie that you were dealing with an actual serial killer. If you enjoy movies about serial killers, stay well clear of "Starkweather" because there are far better movies available.

I AM RELATED TO THAT MONSTER! he is my second uncle. that movie was a horrible depiction of what he really was. That movie didn't have the right to even been produced! i know everything about him. my grandmother married his brother in the summer of 1969. by that time Charlie was already dead thank god, but his brother is the same as him. when my grandmother still worked at the hospital right after my her and my step grandfather got married, he met her at her car and slashed all four tires and then tired to kill her. the whole Starkweather family is nothing but garbage. i am the only on left out of my mothers side of the family that has the last name starkweather. they all had them changed. i will die and i will take the name to my grave! i know all that there is to know of him, he was a murderer. it was awful and i don't like the fact that my damn name is up on the t.v screen. this movie sucked and made me feel like crap. thats all that i have to say on the situation. but if any of you want to tell of anything like i dare you! i mean it. but if you have the balls to my E-Mail is [email protected], feel free to say your opinions.

This movie wasn't bad, other than some bad acting and the occasional bites of cops being stupid and funny when they shouldn't be. I have read a lot of books about Charles Starkweather and I think this movie did a really good job of telling the story. I didn't like that they made it seem more of a love story and also put comedic points in the movie when it didn't need it. Yes this story did happen. The movie also didn't show how Charlie and Caril turned on each other after they got caught. So in all this movie is good except for some bad acting and lines that don't have to be in the movie.

When I watch a movie like this, I am hoping to learn or get some insight into the kind of person that would commit these crimes. OK. there are some technical problems with the movie: the scenery, southern accents and all. But I have to disagree with the bad acting comments. The actors were convincing in their roles. It impossible to empathize with a conscience-less murderer but you do get a sense of his lack of compassion for human life. His girl friend is in the same boat - completely amoral. I think the scene where they fall asleep in the same room as one of their bloody victims is a great statement. My sense of the directing is that it was meant to convey a 50's B-Movie style which reinforced the time and sense of these two losers. Inspite of the drawbacks, I did gain some sense of the their personalities which is (to me) far more important than exact historical placement and correctness. Other good movies in this vein: Elephant and Deliberate Stranger (about Ted Bundy). Not so good: Ed Gein, Dahmer.
