Excellent but underrated film
If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
"La création des oiseaux" or "The Creation of Birds" is a 10-minute animated short film from almost 45 years ago written and directed by French-Canadian filmmaker Frédéric Back. He did not have any of his 2 Oscars when he made this one here. There is no dialogue in here, so you won't need subtitles, even if you don't speak French. I must say I am not the biggest fan of Back's style, but that is just personal preference. Sadly, the story/plot which sounds so interesting in the film's title is very forgettable in here. Early on, it looked a bit like Mowgli from the Jungle Book. So yeah, I did not have a particularly good time watching this one and I can see why it did not get any awards attention whatsoever. A forgettable 10 minutes. Not recommended.
