This "duckumentary," done in the style of "60 Minutes," traces the life of Donald Duck. As Donald's fame grows, so does his ego. While hosting a variety show one night, Donald snaps and fires a gun at the audience for misbehaving. This leads to a series of problems that eventually cause Donald to seek psychiatric help from Ludwig Von Drake, who uses an insult machine as part of Donald's therapy. Then, after a long night of bizarre dreams, Donald learns the error of his ways and vows to reform.

Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.

I admit before two days ago I knew nothing about Down and Out with Donald Duck, until I saw it by chance on YouTube. And I found it very interesting, done as a "duckumentary" done in the style of "60 minutes" it is an affectionate tribute to everyone's favourite cantankerous quack. The animation is very good, lively, bright and colourful, and the music is excellent. And so is the witty script, and the inspired plot, where as Donald rises to fame so does his ego, and after having bizarre dreams after having therapy(involving Professor Von Drake and his insult machine) he vows to reform. Stan Freberg does a stellar job as the narrator, and Tony Anselmo is fine as Donald, with Clarence Nash even better in the archive footage. I for one found Mickey's voice here distracting, but everyone else is fine. What made Down and Out with Donald Duck though was the archive footage. What a delight to see Magician Mickey, Moving Day, Donald's Nephews and Donald in Mathmagic Land all but to name a few. Overall, if you love Donald, this is likely to be a real treat. 9/10 Bethany Cox
