The Phoenix and the Magic Carpet (1995)
Stuck in their late Grandfather's country cottage with no TV, Anthea, Robert and Chris are resigned to a boring week until they find a mouldy old carpet and a strange golden egg. But when the egg accidentally falls into the bonfire, it hatches into the mythical firebird, the Gloden Phoenix. So begins an amazing journey and the adventure of a lifetime, as the Phoenix takes them to a land of enchantment, magic and fantasy - via a magic flying carpet. Written by L.H. Wong

Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.
It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
Although the puppet in this movie leaves much to be desired, the acting by the character playing Chris, the better looking of the two boys, is absolutely outstanding. He commands a presence on screen that is rivaled only by his devilish good looks. All in all, he saves this film and puts it on my top ten list.
A new classic, in the genre of kid's movies with horrible puppets. Not since Pet Shop has there been such a repulsive puppet star, as stiff and awkward as the script in which it reads. Butter up the popcorn, dim the lights, and get ready to fast-forward through the human actors, cause this bird really knows how to fly!My score: 2
