The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

The movie is nice and very better when compared to stupid Bollywood flicks which they just make trying to earn money. The Best Part of Gangster is the Music and Story , But the screenplay and Direction are not very good. Editing is far behind and probably the worst part of the movie... and ending isn't that powerful as well....But this one is one of the best I have seen from Bollywood. Also I forgot to mention the cast of the movie have performed so well and they all are New comers ...Anyways its a late review..... Movie gets 7.5/10... or 8/10. :) my generosity.

This movie was shocking and breathtaking. It was a sweet story about a woman (we don't see this very often) and her trials and tribulations. The director really dug into this woman's character and showed how life is like for her. These types of movies never really sell because they tend to slow and boring with no "filmly attributes" but this film has the right amount of touch to make a audience watch it with interest. The one that really shines is Emraan Hashmi .This is the fifth movie I have seen with him and his characters are always full of surprises. Even though, it is expected that there are some twists and turns, Emraan Hashmi does not fail to mesmerize the audience. If you like him, you will truly enjoy this movie. Two negative comments: 1) At times Kangana Ranaut is very annoying, especially when she is upset. She keeps ranting and looses focus. Other than that, she is a wonderful performer, really putting herself in Simran's shoes. 2) The objective of the story was unclear until the very end. I wish there were more subtle hints dropped in earlier so there was a clue as to what was going on. Overall, this film is gripping and worthwhile watching. It really lives up to the standards of a fresh, new idea.

The movie is supposed to be the story of Abu Salem & Monica Bedi. Bhatts are always known to make films on controversial subjects. They always try to remain in news. This time they have just done that with a quickly made film Gangster. Daya lives with his family in Kashmir from where he relocates to Mumbai. Reaching Mumbai he joins Bhais to become a Gangster. In Mumbai he meets Simran a bar dancer (again a controversial career option by Bhatts). She helps him escape from Police. They start living together and falls in love. Then few scenes & emotions later, Daya is forced to stay away from Simran during which she meets Akash, gets physical with him and gets pregnant too. Daya returns to her life again. Now Simran has to decide with whom she wants to stay. But she doesn't know what has in store for her and Daya. And when she realizes, nothing is left.

I'm really amazed how many people writing almost poems about this movie, which is boring copy of a copy of a copy. Script is bad and unoriginal, acting pathetic. And I can call director a scene-stealer. Compare the beginning of Gangster with the beginning of Fallen Angels by Kar Wai Wong - even music is almost the same. The only good thing about this movie is that it didn't last for usual three bollywood hours, but even this two hours was very very long...... Thanks God only two. My principle is that I'm watching movie till the end and after that I'm making judgment. So here it is. Oscar for this? Rather Golden Razzie. Beware. 3/10 only
