It is both painfully honest and laugh-out-loud funny at the same time.

This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.

For reasons I've never understood, this film has been considered a failure by many. To me it's a success and this is why it's garnered a cult following in more recent times. There's plenty of intrigue and mystery as three seemingly separate plots come together. One plot concerns a wrestler who wakes up in what seems like a hospital. He's confined and finds a limb missing each time he wakes up from sleeping. Another plot concerns a military officer in what seems to be a country in Eastern Europe. He uses illegal torture methods to extract information and his superiors find out. The final plot concerns a series of murders of young women, whose bodies are found with puncture marks on their wrists, similar to those of a vampire. As the film goes on, we discover that there are reasons for these three separate plots and it all comes together very well, with a few interesting twists and turns on the way.For a horror film, this is brimming with action scenes, including car chases, chases on foot, fight scenes and more. The whole thing moves along at a brisk pace and is never boring. Director Gordon Hessler manages to create tension and suspense very effectively and without padding out the film with unnecessary or overlong scenes.I have read the Peter Saxon novel on which the film is based. The novel is not quite as exciting as the film but is a great read and follows the same "three plot" structure as the film. It's short and to the point and also fast-paced. The film follows it very closely, except for the ending. I prefer the ending in the film and this is one of the many ways the film improved things. It's great to have Vincent Price, Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing all in one film, even if only two of the three actually share a scene. The film would still be great if only two of these three horror legends were in it. Cushing's performance is the best of the three even though his character is less interesting than those played by the other two and he has less to do than either. But Price and Lee are at the top of their game too. Price's character is the most interesting because we're not sure whether he's a true villain, or just a misguided likable man. The film keeps you guessing until the end.Special mention of Alfred Marks must be made. He's simply brilliant to watch in this film as the police superintendent in charge of solving the "vampire murders" as they are dubbed. Marks was a comedy actor with a flair for dry wit and is given plenty of funny lines that allow him to put these talents to good use.Christopher Matthews delivers a great performance as a doctor who carries out post-mortems on dead bodies for the police but finds himself taking a much more personal interest in the mysteries around him. His character becomes more prominent in the second half and I like the way he went from being a minor character to a major one. It's perhaps easier to pull this off in books and video games rather than on film so kudos to the script writer.Overall, SCREAM AND SCREAM AGAIN is a briskly-paced horror film with lots of action, great acting and direction, and some great twists and turns in the story. Highly recommended for all fans of British horror.

I remember a cinema viewing of this (the most complete version I've seen), then a TV broadcast, then a video, and in more recent years a DVD. All versions were different with scenes cut, & re-edited, plus the music variations: There is a scene with a coroner kissing a corpse before being disturbed, a scene where the hitchhiking man & woman are being tortured – especially the man. Other scenes with Alfred Marks bringing down Michael Gothard, using a weapon in the quarry & worst of all: a shortened scene involving Lee & Price talking. I'm told there are other cuts at the end too - but I can only remember what I have mentioned. Because of this & the fact a lot of these scenes have never been restored (or maybe others out there have the more complete versions), I'm afraid the forthcoming Blu-Ray could be a real letdown; unless it has an extras section. If it hasn't, what would be the point of another edited release? This movie was a big enough mishmash in the first place!

This movie is closely based on Peter Saxon's science fiction novel "The Disoriented Man". Worth watching if you love sci-fi, mystery, thriller, crime and horror all rolled into one film.***************Spoiler******************* I have NEVER read the book but, from what I have read about the film vs the book, the only thing really missing from the film is the fact these mysterious people are aliens and not just some creation of human science - otherwise the film very closely follows the book. *****************************************This is another film that I have not seen since roughly the mid-80's and recently watched the film again... I have to say it's better than my memory allowed me to remember. There are several things going on in this movie at once - so it's one of those films you will not want miss anything which is easy because it will draw you in quickly just because it's so odd.Oh and by the way, this film is NOT overly gory - the worst parts happen off screen but there is some blood. 8/10

Three of the greatest horror icons of ALL time receive top-billing (in a different and much larger font than the rest of the opening credits), yet after approximately 45 minutes into the film, Vincent Price and Christopher Lee only just walked nonchalantly & briefly through the screen and Peter Cushing has already died! That doesn't mean anything else interesting happened in the meantime, however. Quite the contrary, "Scream and Scream Again" appears to revolve on several and seemingly unrelated topics that are all extremely sinister and compelling. There's the case of a missing athlete who's kept hidden in a secret hospital somewhere and each time he awakes from anesthesia, another limb has been amputated! Then there's also the sub plot about a political party of which the members torture innocent backpackers and annihilate each other! One of the leading officers even knows a "touch of death"-trick! Then, finally, the third and most derailed sub plot revolves on a psychopathic killer picking up girls in dance clubs and subsequently sucking all the blood out of their bodies. When the police get on his tail, the killer turns out to dispose of superhuman strengths and he throws himself into a pit of acid rather than to get arrested. Director Gordon Hessler ("The Oblong Box", "Sinbad's Golden Voyage") doesn't reveal too many clues and the link between the three segments remains a well-kept secret until late in the film but, trust me, it all makes sense eventually. Trained and experienced horror/mystery fanatics can probably uncover some aspects here and there, but the majority stays one giant and unsolvable puzzle. Of course, when dealing with convoluted and twisty screenplays like this, the actual revelations at the end rarely ever live up fully to the mystery and anticipation that has been built up, so don't expect TOO much! Still, "Scream and Scream Again" is a wondrously engaging movie from start to finish, with a classic end shot to boot. There's a lovely sense of British humor throughout the script and particularly Insp. Bellaver has some awesome one-liners. The almighty Vincent Price depicts another greatly demented scientist and acid is definitely a murderous attribute that should get used more often in horror movies!
