At the end of every summer, the children of a Christian community from a suburb of New Jersey attend Camp Hope. They travel deep into the woods far from any distractions the world provides. Here, the children are taught the ways of the Lord, the perils of the flesh, and the horror of the Devil. A charismatic priest leads them in their training. But, he unknowingly has brought something with him, something evil. What was supposed to be a safe place, a spiritual retreat has now turned into a nightmare that not even faith can end.

Truly Dreadful Film

In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.

When I first started to watch this movie I wasn't quite sure what to think as it was quite wired to start of with. however half way through the movie i did find my self getting interested in the plot which i taught they built up quite well. I really enjoyed all of the actors performances. This is quite an usual movie with a different plot than maost movies so it takes sometime to understand what is going on but it is still an OK movie.

Based on true events? Um, not really. The director took his own experiences in a super-strict Catholic summer camp and greatly exaggerated them to produce Camp Hell. The best part of this movie, for me, was watching the ridiculously hateful, opinionated vitriol that the priest would spew to any and all campers who did anything remotely wrong. Seriously, calling a girl a tramp and a whore just for talking to a boy alone at night while standing a good 6 feet away from him? So wrong!Laughing at the indoctrination (read, brain-washing) of young, impressionable young adults and reaffirming all of my doubts and dislikes about religion in general was kind of fun. I could not bring myself to take this movie seriously in any way.So, if you want a good laugh, enjoy mocking religion, and/or are anti- religion, you'll have a good laugh. Otherwise, this is a movie with no resolution. It just kind of winds down to an end having accomplished nothing.Watch it for free, catch it on TV, but don't waste your money on a rental fee.

A psychological study of the horrors of fundamentalist indoctrination. It's a competent, well mounted, and professional looking film for a low-budget effort. The movie delivers some creepy moments and a scene or two that scares (in the Horror movie method). But it is not a slasher, gore, or monster movie. One gets the impression that the anti-religious elements are soft-peddled somewhat. Could the Writer/Director still be suffering from a real-life repression of his feelings ("based on true events" says the credits). The villainous brain-washers are portrayed as good-natured, sincere, folks doing God's work and don't have any real threat or diabolical intent. Isn't that the "horror" of it all? The harm and damage done by this type of closed-minded inculcation of young people. One gets the feeling that the reality is that these people, deep in their souls, know exactly what they are doing and are nothing more than evil, power-mad "monks" and it is disturbing that so many people fall for it. That is truly scary.

UGGGGH! This movie was so pathetic! The boy who played the Christian was a terrible actor. The story line was dumb! I cannot believe I even attempted to watch this movie.Terrible! It will possess you with scoffs and lots of eye rolling. No WAIT! You know who would like this movie? A pathetic Christian boy that wants to be scared.Bleh! During the duration of the movie I expected something awesome to happen. It was so bland and boring, even the 'climax' scenes. No discernible plot line what so ever. DO NOT watch this movie!
