If you like to be scared, if you like to laugh, and if you like to learn a thing or two at the movies, this absolutely cannot be missed.

The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

The last twenty minutes or so of this film made me incredibly angry. Sure, it was bad, I knew that from the start, what really drove me up the wall during those twenty minutes was the numerous false endings. It felt like the film was mocking me by going on when I wanted it to end so badly. So, what was it that made me wish for Phat Girlz to be at least twenty minutes shorter? The first two acts of this movie are incredibly boring, it feels like nothing ever happens, mostly because they keep discussing one single issue, that of being fat. Furthermore, the protagonist is constantly angsty about her body size, it's really quite depressing. Not to mention the stupidity, the filmmakers have a view of the world that seems very naive, like the film was made by children. As far as I can tell the main conflict (a lack of fashion for big women) is fabricated, but don't take my word for that, I know nothing of fashion. However, it is in the third act that Phat Girls becomes really annoying. They crank up the stupidity until it outweighs everything else, even the boredom, the result of which is a horrendously contrived resolution of the non-conflict. Simply put, the protagonist starts a big women fashion "revolution" and gets her happily ever after for no apparent reason. It might have worked if this was a fairy tale, but it's not. Combine that with frequent false endings and the result is pure anger.

Uplifting and FunnyFunny and Loved It.I have to be honest when I first heard of this movie. My first thought was another bad movie like the Cookout. To my pleasant surprise It was really good. It has a positive message which will appeal to anyone. Monique plays a salesperson trying create a clothing line for plus-size women while battling the prejudice that she meets from others as well as accepting who she is. A movie about self-esteem,self-improvement, self-awareness. I would recommended this to anyone. Phat Girlz proves that being big can also be beautiful in this entertaining, heartfelt comedy. Fed up with the mumu-style clothing in popular stores Jazmine decides to come up with her own clothing line. Her boss and her own self-doubt prove to be her biggest hurdle.Actors: Mo'Nique, Kendra C. Johnson, Jimmy Jean-Louis, Godfrey, Joyful Drake Loved It

I can't believe this movie is at the bottom of the list. This is a FAVORITE of mine. This movie is funny, touching, inspirable, gives you confidence, and its so hard not to love. This is pretty much how it honestly feels to be a big boned person in the world today. Mo'Nique is absolutely amazing.I just can't believe this movie was rated so low. I give it a ten, most definitely. I've seen it numerous times. Cry and laugh every time too.I love a lot of different movies to, from The NeverEnding Story to Mulan to Identity to Gummo to Hedwig and the Angry Inch ... etc. I own over 200+ movies and Phat Girlz is still at the top of my list for the best.

OMG! This is a very interesting film. It deals with issues of body image and America's role in Africa. In an over sexualized world, where all girls want to be like Paris Hilton (or Perez Hilton) I find this story very refreshing, and Queen Latifah deserves another Oscar nomination for this one. (BTW, is there a King Latifah?) This movie rushed the way intimacy with humour beyond laughter over and over. Maybe it's cuz fat people are so funny but this movie was amazing, so full of BELLY laughs hehe, it reminded me a bit of Patch Adams cuz it's makes you want to go out and say to the world OH YES I CAN! just like Queen Latifah does in this movie, it reminds us all of the condition of this world under certain negative pressures from our different times with each other in America and the war in Afghanistan and Cuba, and Servia and all.Buy it NOW and don't listen to the haters!
