The story-telling is good with flashbacks. The film is both funny and heartbreaking. You smile in a scene and get a soulcrushing revelation in the next.

The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

A friend brought Bob the Butler to a barbecue last evening and, after eating, a few of us sat down and watched Bob the Butler. The only actor that I had ever heard of was Brooke Shields and I immediately wondered what we were going to be in for.Well, what a very pleasant surprise! Without exception, everyone present thoroughly enjoyed what was, in all honesty a pretty predictable plot and perfectly competent acting. Afterwards, someone asked what the movie had scored on IMDb and, unsurprisingly, it only got 5.7. I say, 'unsurprisingly' because, from previous experience with IMDb, I knew that such a simple, happy, uncomplicated story would never be highly rated by voters - and that is a huge shame. There was plenty of good, clean humour and nothing to make us wonder what the point of the movie was. We didn't have to rack our brains to figure out some ridiculously complicated plot. We just sat and laughed for an hour-and-a-half!So, director Sinyaw, thank you for some great entertainment. We will be looking for some more of your work for our next barbie night and hoping that you have kept it as simple as Bob!

Saturday night, time to catch a DVD. We were pretty much settled on "Walk The Line" until we saw this. It had Tom Green, it looked like a "comedy" so we went this way. I obviously knew "Walk The Line" was slightly more acclaimed, but I was in the mood for something light and easy."Bob the Butler" is all about Bob (Green), a terrible employee who's tried a stack of jobs with little success. He comes across an ad for a butler course and decides to give it a go. While doing the course he receives a request to babysit (one of his old jobs) and gives it a go. He does well so the mum decides to hire him as the butler. From here we can work out what's going to happen and the plot plays out exactly as you'd expect.Terrible movie, even for the genre. An all over the place, poorly laid out script with Green way out of his comfort zone. It was sad watching him play this role. The kids were OK but that was about it. Don't waste your time.

It starts out humorous then builds up until Bob enters the modern day home. Pops is missing, dead or divorced. Bob instantly develops a father type relationship with the two kids, boy and girl. They hit it off pretty good. Of course mom played by Brooke Shields is a working mom caught up in working and forgetting about here kids. After some good deeds covered up and hidden away from mom. Gets Bob fired for the millionth time. However Bob knows everybody because of his million jobs that he has held. After he gets canned by ignorant mom. Bob hangs in here though and lands a Job on a Butler cruise ship. After mom finally wakes up and realizes that the man she has seeking after has been under her nose the whole time. In the end love triumphs and all ends happily with the turkey blowing up. All in all it was cute and funny and worth watching. Some good laughs and good moral stories to be taught and told.

Whether one likes a movie or not is totally dependent upon what one is looking for. If you're looking for superb production or a totally realistic story line this wouldn't be the one for you. (Aren't movies supposed to take us away from reality for a time?) If you liked "Hook" "Jumanji" or "Lemony Snicket's A series of Unfortunate Events" you will definitely like this one. Though I missed the very beginning it was an easy plot to pick up on, moves along well enough and has redeeming value. I immediately recognized Simon Callow from "Room With a View", and "The Woman in White" among others, so I figured it was worth staying and seeing what it was about and it was on the Disney channel so it was safe for my child to watch. I found the movie entertaining, funny, not overly cheesy, and felt good when it was over. What more could we ask for?
