Lot leads his people to a fertile valley adjacent to the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, hotbeds of vice and corruption ruled by the merciless Queen Bera. When Lot orders a dam to be busted in order to prevent the destruction of the cities by the attacking Helamites, the queen, in gratitude, allows Lot's people to settle in Sodom. Soon, however, the veneer of civilization begins crumbling as Lot and the Hebrews become corrupted by the Sodomites.

It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.

It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.

The first hour is rather dull, probably because it focuses more on the righteous Hebrews than the fun-loving Sodom and Gomorrah folks; but then the film hits its stride, with a series of spectacular sequences: the battle of the Hebrews with a nomadic tribe (almost rivaling the battle scenes in "Spartacus"), the water dam break, the slave revolt, the long one-on-one fight between Stewart Granger and Stanley Baker, and of course the destruction of the cities by the hand of God. Even Robert Aldrich's direction becomes more dynamic. Of course the censorship of the times restricts what can actually be shown on the screen, and what is shown barely justifies the infamy of the title cities, but there are some mildly kinky moments, mostly courtesy of Stanley Baker, who suggestively bites the finger of his sister and asks Podesta "Do I remind you of your father?" while he's kissing her. *** out of 4.

Actually Ain't so religious, but l like too much biblical epics that re-telling some famous happenings from holly book, this one is too fictional keeping the main fact and making dramatic statements that never occurred according the bible, apart this matter which had so many damages on movie itself, further bad things come together, like a low profile special effects which works sometimes and are so primitive in mainly time,Stewart Granger who are one of my fave actor ever this time disappointed me...anyway the movie sunk in the desert of Marrocos,at least Pier Angeli gave a decent acting noticed for many....pure Italian beauty!!Resume: First watch: 2006 / How many: 2 / Source: DVD / Rating: 6

Heroic, powerful and reflecting the cultural taste of its time. Same recipes like in every mega production, tale in which impression is the axis and the Biblic events are only ingredients of great creation. Perfect in details, with impressive cast, nuances of play and naives tricks, homage to Jew civilization and didactic definition of sin, few drops of love story and a imposing Lot, the film is slice of an era in which movies are only illustrated fairy tales and the cinema must create the heroes in which crumbs of childhood persists. A Lego-film. For everyone - a trap, image, gesture behind the dust and wry seduction. Part of history, good occasion for remember and pray for a Sunday afternoon.

I'm a fan of both Stanley Baker and Stewart Grainger, but both these actors in lead roles do nothing to raise this movie above the mediocre. Those who know the S&G legend will know they came a cropper as a result of too much sin. Well; a long, convoluted yarn about territory and the price of salt is spun out with shaky melodrama and unconvincing props for a couple of hours in lead-up to the great disaster. All the usual clichés are there. It's swords 'n' sandals at their most banal.Anyone who manages to sit through it all in hope of some big-time movie disaster stuff will be sorely disappointed, as effects less believable than those created by Jerry Anderson fall prey to an earthquake and a thunderstorm combined. God isn't very imaginative. This is strictly for the unemployed matinée class today. If you're bored with looking for a job; curl-up with a Stella or two and get bored watching this.
