The Poseidon Adventure (2005)

A brilliant film that helped define a genre

This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

I sat through all three hours. Thankfully I was also writing so it wasn't wasted time. Mother Nature, this was horribly bad with (thankfully) just a nod to the original. I'm hoping the actors got paid because I can't imagine they read the script and said, 'Yes!! What a great part.' Of course all the families and couples die or live together - with the singles all dying. The Coast Guard in the boat at the end look like that guy who was in a boat in your toilet in that commercial years back. And the priest lives because, in this day and age, there would be an uproar if he died. This is so ridiculous I should watch the original just to wash the sight of this one out of my eyes. Don't, I beg of you, don't - even if you have Netflix.

You wouldn't think that 3 hours of something as iconic as the Poseidon Adventure would be forgettable, but this is.The insertion of a wholly unnecessary (an massively unconvincing) terrorist plot subplot draws attention away from the main course - do our survivors escape? The fact that we don't care very much about the survivors (and particularly about the adultery-and-its-consequences subplot which impinges on a good chunk of them doesn't help).The TV movie budget means that we are never looking at masses of production value on screen, but instead we are looking at very dim lighting to disguise the absence of production budget - OK, I know there wouldn't be much light, but this is ridiculous.And there is too much of it, given that it is plodding and fairly uninteresting a lot of the time.

In Hollywood lately every things either a sequel or remake or movie version of a TV show.posidon adventure is a bloated TV remake of the Irwin Allen 1972 classic of the same name,but this is not as good as the original.although it does boast a pretty good cast;Rutger hauer as the priest,C Thomas Howell the ships Dr,Bryon Brown,Adam Baldwin,and Steve Guttenberg(famous for the police academy movies)anyway this one is updated,no tidal wave this time but a terrorist attack gone wrong.bear in mind there is more character development in this version then the original,keeping the movie afloat for 2 parts.this was shown on TV in 2005,a year later posidon was released which as far as i know is about the same thing but with a bigger budget and more well known stars.i don't think its a poor movie but i will say it is fair to average.

This is a total waste of film and your time. What a dismal attempt to benefit from a classic disaster film. Top 5 reasons this film is a failure. One - Dylan Clarke video taping everything; Two - no real reason for the ship capsizing; Three - Sylvia Syms poor attempt at acting; Four - Amber Sainsbury another sad attempt at acting; Five - all the whimpering. John Putch should have walked away from this film from day one. Alex Kingston needed something to do after her departure from "ER" but this should not have been it. She has the potential to be one of the great dramatic actors of our day and I hope she will get better roles in the future. Dumbest line - "Remember we talked about plan B, this is it. - Alan Baldwin"
