This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.

It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...

Brian Herzlinger, a real life gentleman attempting to break into Hollywood film making as a director, is struggling. It's a tough town to make it big, after all. His parents wire him money if he needs it, which is rather often than not. So, how can Herzlinger prove himself and gain a higher profile? After all, so many times in Tinseltown its WHO you know. A plan is hatched. Having had a crush on Drew Barrymore since her E.T. days, with the bonafide fan club cards to prove it, why not making a funny documentary of trying to get a date with Drew? Never mind that she's already involved with someone and doesn't know Brian from Adam. It's Kismet, really, as Brian has just won over a thousand dollars by answering a trivia question with her name on television. So, this aspiring director buys a video camera, many tapes, and enlists a crew of pals. His attempts to "meet" Drew involve setting up appointments with Drew's personal trainer, beauty consultant, and various other individuals in hopes that ONE of them will make the introduction. Along the way, Brian discovers he can't do 30 push ups, has blackheads, and other fun stuff. Will anyone of this pan out? This is a sweet film and it has some comical moments. No, its not as good as 20 dates, to which it has some similarities. But, Herzlinger is one determined guy and he has produced a movie which gives a good glance inside the difficult entrance into Hollywood's inner circle. Despite being a low budget film, it looks good, has interesting camera shots, and enough comedy and intrigue to keep the viewer going. As a result, Herzlinger probably did benefit from the making of the movie, Barrymore turned out to be helpful and cameos with such folks as Eric Roberts and such are pretty interesting as well. Make a date with Date, romance fans. You'll savor its sweetness.

Downloaded this movie and was surprised at the reviews praising it on this site. Obviously most are fake who give it nearly perfect scores. This is a movie, about a neat idea actually, that turns sour very quickly. Armed with $1,100 and a video camera, Herzlinger spends 30 days trying to penetrate the walls of showbiz flackery so that he can get a date with Drew Barrymore, his lifelong celebrity crush. Along the way, we're expected to find this ''nice Jewish boy'' adorable as he pesters his industry contacts and peeks back at the camera. It becomes apparent that the plot becomes very very boring and it is obvious to the viewer that this movie is really a glimpse into a personality-disordered man's attempt to break into Hollywood. I think more than anything, you have proved that Perseverance and truly BELIEVING in your dream does make dreams a reality. I was struck by Drew's candidness with Brian. I actually wept at how touching the encounter was when you finally had your date. Drew said something that urged me, a non-enthusiastic internet user to actually log on and write this to you. Drew said that she felt she was "a link in your destiny..." and she wanted not to hurt you and to be a part of it. I am hoping for the same from you Brian. Your boldness and honesty is something that my daughter - a budding actress - needs to be "linked to" and I am hopeful that YOU WILL please help HER?(Just as Drew helped you.) In this way, your movie, you, and Drew all could help her to keep the DREAMS ALIVE. Meagan (my daughter) has a singing voice which I believe was God given (she certainly didn't get it from me!). She has a long list of Community Stage Acting, Is the female lead in one movie (currently at Film Festival) called "Locked Away." She has been dancing on stage since she was 3 y.o.(she is now 22). I have spent many hours researching how to help her, spent much money and provide daily (emotional) support for her journey to Broadway. She is currently a MTP at WMU and will graduate with a BFA,BS in Sping 2008. Do you know any Agents, any contacts in NYC or elsewhere or have any other recommendations as to who would guide her? Brian You are a fantastic net-worker. I am hoping that Drew's generosity to help you will encourage you to help me help my daughter. Oh, FYI: I grew up 2 blocks from where MADONNA lived with her grandmother after her mother died. Her Grandmother used to have me and my friend come to the house and try to get MADONNA to come outside and "play" with the other kids (we were about 12y.o.) She would "Bribe" us to come in and talk with MADONNA by offering us fresh baked cookies. I could try to contact MADONNA but doubt she would give me the time of day (as she did not when we were younger - of course - she was probably held up in that bedroom writing songs for the future - who knew??!!). Thanks for any help you can give me. If anyone else reading this has any ideas, I am open to them also. Thank You! Good Luck Brian in all future endeavors. JULIE
