The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.

By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.

I didn't really enjoy this film terribly much. I found it to be a bit of a bore, and I f*cking love martial arts films. This film has no idea what it wants to be, and ends up trying to be several things at once. Martial arts comedy, archeology mystery and historical romance. It swings back and forth between present day Jackie Chan and his visions of his past life as the general, and it's pretty jarring, since we never really spend enough time in either story to get to like any of the characters. Not to mention that the two styles don't mesh well at all. As I said before, the present day is more comedic while the historical side is more serious and dramatic, and it's like watching two completely different films. Now I must mention a character I can't stand. OK Soo. Good god is this character annoying. She is the general's love interest, and all she does for the entire movie is whine and complain. There's nothing remotely compelling about her in any way. Also, there is the stock villain introduced about two thirds of the way into the movie, because, you know, we need a villain. They might as well call him 'Dark Evil Mcbadguy' because he was just so cliché and bland. Now, this isn't to say that there aren't good scenes in the movie. The opening scene is quite impressive, and I enjoyed the scene where Jack and his friend (who's name eludes me) are escaping from the angry locals in Dasar after they wreck the tomb in the temple. There is the scene in the glue factory, which I found to be quite enjoyable. However, the rest of it was pretty bland. I wish it had focused on the comedic martial arts archaeology story and cut out the historical scenes. I know that would make it a different movie, but that's just the side of the story that I find more compelling. Any-who, that's my review, so I must bid you adieu.

Being a fan of Jackie Chan and also a fan of Asian cinema in general, then "The Myth" was something that I just had to see. I remember seeing it back when it was initially released and then again yesterday. The movie was far better than I had remembered it to be.Think "Indiana Jones" exposed to Jackie Chan's usual stunts. Then you are pretty close to what "The Myth" is. Jackie Chan plays two roles in this movie, Dr. Jack which is an archaeologist in present time and General Meng Yi a general in Qin dynasty era. Jack have dreams of the past and find relics from the time, and goes on a quest to solve the mystery behinds the dreams. Of course, dangers and problem lurk around every corner. The scenes that take place in the Qin era were grand-scale epic. Lots of battle scenes with lots of soldiers, but also a lot of really nice scenic scenes, and good character build between Meng Yi and concubine OK-Soo (played by Hee-seon Kim). Now why they had a Korean play in a part Cantonese-Mandarin-English movie is beyond me, but hey, she did a good job and brought lots of grace to the movie. And the scenes taking place in the present were of course filled with the traditional Chan action and comedy. And it worked out well, the mix of past and present and the transition of the two was great. This is one of Chan's better movies because it is driven by a solid, great story that doesn't only rely on action and comedy. If you are a fan of Jackie Chan or Asian cinema, you should sit down to watch "The Myth" if you haven't already seen it. It is well worth it, and provides great entertainment.

this a hot movie. worth my time and money. the music in it is great. don't know much of Chinese history but wart the heck it's a fantasy/action flick so it's hot. Jackie killed a mountain of people. tell me how gangster is that. that's some real stuff n hardcore. the boy got skills. HOTT HOTTT HOTTT ass movie yup. A role which I never seen him played before. I never really seen him play a romantic person or love a girl any his movies. Maybe just a handful if I do recall. He could have shown more affection toward the princess (whoa ain't she fly)and like kiss her or something. The Mallika girl wow, she is a fly girl. Could fight nice too. One of the best Jackie Chan movies I had ever seen. It's good to see they using a lot of CGI now. It was funny the horse was kicking major asses. It possible rite? is it? They should have made an extra special DVD which chronicles the life of General Meng Yi. Interesting guy. His fights and all that good stuff.
