This is yet another biblically based film that addresses the end of the world and the second coming of Jesus Christ. It's not a horror movie, but a mystery thriller that works great and appeals to our most elemental emotional feelings. The film makes a mixture of Christian and Jewish elements and beliefs that may not seem very cool but the heart of the story is closely associated with the prophecy of the Book of Revelation, in particular the verses concerning the seven seals. Of course, the story starts from this base but then takes on other contours and creative freedoms, while making everything more intimate and personal thanks to Abby (a main character played by Demmy Moore in an excellent performance), a young girl who wants to be a mother very much But has a painful history of miscarriages. This young woman ends up getting directly involved with the issue, becoming the victim of events beyond her control. This gives the audience a clear sense of support for the young woman, holding our attention to the end. Michael Biehn did well in the role of Abby's husband, although the character has very little value for the story. Jürgen Prochnow made a good performance in the role of David, the mysterious abbot of Abby who, in fact, is Jesus in disguise. The special, visual and sound effects of the film are quite satisfying and help at the time of the most amazing scenes.

Trying to go easy during her pregnancy, a couple renting a room to a stranger come to believe he's an Apocalyptic messenger tied to her baby's birth and race to stop the signs of the Apocalypse from occurring. When this one came up some good stuff, it wasn't that bad at all. What this one gets right is the first half's gradual build-up of the biblical lamentations, which sets up the mood here quite nicely throughout the first half. Beginning with her dreams and visions of her traveling to the different churches seeing the varying figures and apocalyptic flashes throughout to the different scenes of her tracking him into the church all the while continuing to flesh out the visions and what they mean. As they allow the film t carry out the rather impressive storyline here that progressively grows in seriousness which makes for a far more lively time here building up the rather impressive and well-detailed apocalyptic storyline. There's a lot of fun to come here from this with the last hour as the final signs of the Apocalypse coming true basically being just one big action scene. Starting with the rather nice falling hail scene in the middle of the day with a huge swarm flying down and breaking nearly everything in sight leaving it with a great spectacle, there's the glorious revelation scene that is a wonderful reversal on everything, a great battle in the church and then the greatness of the gunfight in the prison as well as the structure- damaging earthquake which brings more action and stunt work than it should. These here are what make this one enjoyable as this did have one main flaw to it that would be the incredibly long and mostly dull beginning. While it's not completely terrible, the beginning to this one gets really tiresome quickly due to the fact that it seems like a pre-natal drama more than a horror film, since it's mostly about their pregnancy and the complications that keep happening from her visions and everything else that's going on that's not the most entertaining. This one is sorely lacking in the beginning because it's not entirely fun to watch a couple argue about their pregnancy over and over again and then shift focus to include brief scenes such as her shopping for clothes or furniture by herself which just make them stand out even more how dull they are. The inclusion of the mysterious stranger signals the start of it all, but this soon leads nowhere since nothing is brought up with it then switches over to the Apocalyptic storyline while still keeping one foot in the baby stuff, and it just takes forever to get going. If something were to happen beyond the rather weak visions and dreams, then it wouldn't be as bad but that's all we're given in this, and it can make for some really dull stuff at times. Otherwise, this one wasn't that bad.Rated R: Graphic Language, Violence and Nudity.

In Haiti, David Bannon (Jürgen Prochnow) breaks a seal and there's a sea life die-off. In the Middle East, terrorists escape into a town formerly Sodom which is then frozen. Father Lucci (Peter Friedman) is certain of the supernatural but he assures the Vatican that they are explainable. Abby Quinn (Demi Moore) is non-religious and had attempted suicide. She is sure that this pregnancy will take after previous failures but her husband Russell (Michael Biehn) is more concerned. Russell is a lawyer defending mentally-slow Jimmy Szaragosa who killed his parents following the word of God because they're siblings. David rents a room from the Quinns. Young Avi is convinced of impending doom. There is not much action. The leads aren't actually doing much. It's not really a thriller or even a horror. What I like is the spooky mystery. It's piecing together this simple story. Often Apocalypse is something epic. This makes it something much smaller and personal. The ending is touching and poetic.
