Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.

Watching it is like watching the spectacle of a class clown at their best: you laugh at their jokes, instigate their defiance, and "ooooh" when they get in trouble.

I like the actress and actor but the writer OhMy. He protrays first, elderly women as morons. Then as you continue to watch he portrays all English people as morons. Really? Then continues his story to suggest all elderly men and ladies are immoral perverts. I think the story is insulting. And discussing.

Without a shadow of a doubt, this is the most boring film I have ever seen. Words cannot describe how slow and dull it is. I really feel like I wasted an hour and a half (or whatever it was ) of my life when I watched this. Literally nothing happens. Whoever wrote this should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. It is somehow masquerading as one of those period dramas where not much has to happen as its all so wonderfully subtle. This is not subtle, it is terrible. Some films offend me because of how terrible the plots are. They get a 3 out of 10. This film gets a 1 because it doesn't even have a plot. The writer created a drab plot and thought that casting two of the finest English actresses would turn it into a classic. The dames' performances are fine, but with a plot this mundane it really doesn't matter to me. I will never get the time I spent watching this back. I strongly urge anyone considering this film, to watch something/ anything else.

This film is about two elderly sisters' lives being turned upside down after they found an ailing young man on the beach."Ladies in Lavender" is a captivating film. It is very strong in both story telling and in acting. Both Judi Dench and Maggie Smith did excellent in portraying love and jealousy. It is amazing that by just one look on the face, you can tell how the characters are thinking. The story telling is subtle by the acting is so direct. "Ladies in Lavender" draws me, captivates me and touches me. I think this film deserves a wider audience. It is a pity, that many people may not give this film a chance because they think the target demographic is towards the older generation.

An often breathtakingly acted project, Ladies in Lavender is a terrible disappointment. The story seems like a smouldering English tale of love and duty cracking heads. Ultimately it becomes a pleasant, well-observed but deflating tale about being English.Maggie Smith and Judi Dench may not be beyond criticism - no one is - but that means that there should be vigorous forelock tugging as they turn in yet more first class acting, irrespective of price, project or peers. I really recommend this film for seeing a great cross section of other super English actors: I remember thinking, 'yeah, but they forgot Jimmy Yuill' and then even he pops up in cameo. Nice.Daniel Brühl and Natascha McElhone are good they can't match the bucolic ease or the 'indigenous Cornish'. They are naturally outsiders though. The biggest problem - and it is a serious issue - is the determined romanticism of Dance, the director. I found the cadential slo-mos ofputting. The story (on paper) also needs the bite of backstory. 4/10
