This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.

Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

liked this movie because it was action and no complicated plot. Some films try to be to clever, and this one works because you know the cast and like them from other films and TV , they have acted in. I am a huge fan of Slater and i like the fact he isn't a pretty boy trying to play the hero as a James bond actor would. I chose this movie because of being mainly a fan of his, and that least in this movie he doesn't get killed off half way through. If you want to watch something easy to comprehend and don't mind a few mistakes here and there, like the fact it isn't full of the f word every sentence you'll enjoy it. This as an edge of old eighties action movies and I believe that if rich folk in the future, want to play war, it is possible that the outline plot of this film may become a reality. Money does buy everything and that's the point of this movie. Slater does his best with what he as been given and wouldn't be bad in one of the expendables movies , this film as an edge of what expendables delivers on a bigger budget.

"Soldiers of Fortune" ranks as one of Christian Slater's better straight to video releases. Freshman Russian director Maxim Korostyshevsky acquits himself with style to spare in this suspenseful, splendidly-acted, and marvelously well photographed "Expendables" clone. Slater stars as dishonorably discharged U.S. Army captain drummed out of the military for conduct unbecoming and insubordination. This represents one of Slater's better performances, and he looks like he is still in good shape with a six-pack to prove it. Korostyshevsky not only stages this noisy nonsense with verve, but also he has surrounded Slater with a first-rate villain and a solid supporting cast. Colm Meaney of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" makes a thoroughly loathsome villain named Carter Mason, while Ving Rhames, Sean Bean, Dominic Monaghan, and James Cromwell are cast as wealthy businessmen who want to get a taste of combat. Okay, scenarists Robert Crombie, Alexandre Coscas, and Joe Kelbley created an occasionally overcomplicated narrative, especially when a couple of people looking to hire our hero and test him during a poker game. Eventually, a reluctant James Craig McKenzie decides to take these people up and brings in his best friend to help him put a quintet of millionaires through a boot camp before they invade Snake Island and take on a mad dictator, Colonel Lupo, and his bodyguard Carter Mason. Sure, the credibility of "Soldiers of Fortune" is called into question several times based on the behavior of the heroes. Nevertheless, a surprise or two occurs. This actioneer is one of Slater's better ones.

I have to agree with those who said this movie was horrible. I have to ask...what has happened to Christian Slater? He is a wonderful actor. Broken Arrow is one of my favourite movies (Yes I have many favourites) I have not seen Christian in very many good movies over the past few years. This makes me wonder if there has been some kind of falling out of favour in Hollywood. I do not watch or read any celebrity gossip shows / magazines. I simply know who I like and so see the movie....I am rarely gob smacked by the movie. This is one as was Battlefield earth that made me sit back and scratch my head. John Travolta, I just adore him. Again he and Slatter in Broken Arrow were great together. So what is happening? Why is Slatter disappearing into the goo of bad films? He is better then this...I hope he has a great come back.

I don't need to go into detail here as to the bad script, acting, special effects etc, but it made me laugh. The opening scene in a Taliban held village was a great laugh, especially the suspicious old man with burka woman. I stopped taking it seriously from right then and went along for the ride. The basic plot idea is good and could have been done with some style & class, considering the actors involved; but it came off as a straight-to-video actioner, not even credible enough to be a TV movie. We should probably expect more of the same in the coming months/years since the two Expendables movies, and the stars of those films are already making hay from Expendables with other, less worthy(?) movies. The basic story has been done before, but I would pay to see this done properly by a A-grade director with a strong script and decent effects budget; something along the lines of Predator, with an Arnold Schwarzenegger type lead to bring in the audience. All of the actors involved significantly underplayed their roles, making them look a bit one dimensional, but if it was on TV one night and I had nothing else to watch - I'd give it a shot. Great B-movie - 6/10.
