Pure Luck (1991)
The daughter of a wealthy businessman has disappeared in Mexico, and all the efforts to find her have been unsuccessful. A psychologist, knowing that the girl has an ultra bad luck, persuades her father to send to Mexico one of his employees, an accountant with super bad luck, to find her. Perhaps he will be lucky, and his bad luck could help to find the unlucky girl.

Memorable, crazy movie
Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
This is my favorite movie. I have never laughed as hard as I did in this movie. I don't like comedy actors like Martin Short, Jim Carrey or Steve Martin. As a matter of fact I avoid them and any other "slapstick" comedy, but this movie made me laugh. The idea of it...using one person with bad luck to find another is ingenious! I hope others out there will give the movie a chance and watch it with a light heart. If you don't think people like this exist...you are wrong! They are living their lives trying to accept with a positive attitude what fate has given them...just plain old bad luck! I had to watch this movie several times to hear the whole dialog, my continuous laughter made me miss a lot!
I have been looking to rent this movie for long time and could not find it because I did not know the name of it.Now, when I found a name I could not find it anyway. Why it is not available on Netflix? I like the story and I have not seen the movie for very long time. Is it too old or is it under some kind of protection. Everybody should be able to see it.There should be more funny movies like this one and I believe that there are enough good stories to tell, that will make people laugh.Also I think that Martin Short is very funny actor and "Pure Luck" is one of my favorite movies.
This sit-down, family film is definitely something to have among your classics. Ten years after my first viewing of the movie, my family, friends and I occasionally bring up a "What was that movie where..." line. We refer back to pure luck and think how funny it was. The movie is very creative. It is the best portrayal of bad luck I have ever seen. If you have not yet seen this movie, and are looking for something hilarious, fun, imaginative, creative, and that will leave a positive impression on you and your family, than this movie is definitely for you. While reading through the ratings, I encountered some negative ratings. This film is definitely better than those people made it out to be.
This movie, and every other remakes of french comedies by American directors are just awful (Father's day, Mixed Nuts, Three fugitives...). What makes "La Chèvre" an excellent french movie, is the acting of great actors like Pierre Richard and Gégard Depardieu, and the directing of great directors like "Françis Veber" which are by far more subtle than American acting or directing, especially in comedies. And as you talk about the goal of this movie, they bought an idea that was a big success elsewhere and they popularized it to make the movie accessible to a large audience. The result is a big load of tripe. I guess you have to be french to understand that, because it's just a matter of culture...
